JUNE 2019.... still getting this same error message on my iPhone 8+? Really!? This phone costs over $1,000... and the "record a voicemail greeting" doesn't work?? This is stupid.

The solution is to ignore the error as follows:
1. Record your Custom Greeting.
2. Hit Save (you will get the 1035 error message)
3. Select OK on error message.
4. Your greeting selection at the top of the screen will switch back to Default but your newly recorded Custom greeting will still be showing in the bottom part of the screen.
5. Reselect Custom at the top of the screen and hit Save again.
6. It will now save your custom greeting without the error message.
7. Test by calling your phone from another phone.

RESPONSE:
JUNE 18, 2019:
Hi darbaer... the instructions above ARE helpful...and ultimately worked.
BUTTTT FIRST....
I had to call myself, go through the old-school prompts, CANCEL the current "long-term custom message".
AFTER.... I cancelled the current custom message via the old-school prompts.
THEN it let me record a new "out of the office" message using your advice above.
Thank you 🙂

Thanks so much, that did the trick (once I could recall my voicemail box password, of course)! Only, instead of hanging up, I dialed "#" after recording my new greeting, then opted to go back and listen to it, then disconnected. I appreciate the work around. Interestingly, I learned there appears to be a way to also set up an "extended away message" using this same technique, which I'll have to dabble with, come vacation time.

What I found is that if I record the greeting and then listen to it before saving it will play. It will then give me the error when I hit "Save". If I record it and then "Save" it without listening to it, it will "Save". I could then listen to it after it was saved. Easy fix but seems like an odd glitch that they should fix.
