Wifi calling problem (Recipient cannot hear me)

Hi, I am testing wifi calling with my iPhone 6s plus and iPhone 6 plus.  When I make an ATT Wi-Fi call using my iPhone 6s plus to a recipient with an iPhone 5s, they cannot hear me but I can hear them.  The call eventually drops.  I tried the same thing with the iPhone 6 Plus using ATT Wi-FI calling and the issue still appears.  I called another person with an iPhone 5 using the same procedure and the issue still appears.  Last, I called my iPhone 6 plus using my iPhone 6s plus with and without ATT Wi-Fi and there is no issue.  This tells me there's nothing wrong with my network.

To summarize:

iPhone 6s plus and Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 5s = Recipient cannot hear me

iPhone 6 plus and Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 5s = Recipient cannot hear me

iPhone 6s plus and NO Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 5s = Recipient CAN hear me

iPhone 6 and NO Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 5s = Recipient CAN hear me

iPhone 6s plus and Wi-Fi call -> another iPhone 5s = Recipient cannot hear me

iPhone 6s plus and Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 6 plus and Wi-Fi = Recipient CAN hear me

iPhone 6s plus and no Wi-Fi call -> iPhone 6 plus and Wi-Fi = Recipient CAN hear me

If you're still having problems after 9.1 update, disabling wifi calling alone won't necessarily solve it (at least that's what I've experienced).  You need to turn off wifi calling AND also under Settings->General-> Reset Settings-> Reset Network Settings to get your phone functioning properly again.   (BTW, you'll need to reenter appropriate wifi and bluetooth network info afterwards.)

I have found that my calls when not on a wifi network aren't able to through unless I reset both items.

I'm just guessing, but I think there's a possibly uncommon chipset issue with some iphones.  I've got an Apple Store Genius appointment tomorrow.

I don't think there is a chipset issue but rather something else that is causing your problem.  I'd be very curious to hear what the Apple people decide after examining your iPhone.  Please post back with your results.

Update: iOS 9.1 running on both phones appears to solve the problem.

Apple couldn't figure out what the problem was with my phone.  So they gave me a new replacement phone.

I restored my new iphone from an iTunes backup and turned on wifi calling. It's fine now.

There  was a problem with the phone.

I've had this problem from the rollout of wifi calling.  I can hear the person I am talking to just fine but my voice is breaking up for them (they are using iphone 5, land line).  Also, some incoming calls go straight to voice mail instead of ringing on my iphone 6.  Also, I can't send a text most of the time unless it is via imessage, regular sms messages will not send when wifi calling is active.  I am using iOS 9.1.  Any advice/help from anyone from AT&T?

I had my phone replaced by Apple. No solution.

BUT, following numerous calls to AT&T support, one support specialist finally suggested that I get a new SIM card for my phone at an AT&T store.  Just go in and ask. No charge for this

PROBLEM FINALLY SOLVED!!  There was something obscure wrong with my original SIM card.

I want to followup and indicate that the wifi problem was not solved by a new phone. Thought it was, but it wasn't.  See the true solution (a new SIM) in a later response.

The symptoms you describe are typically due to problems with your internet connection quality.  Please run a few VOIP tests and post your results listed under the Advanced tab.

Here is the link:   http://voiptest.8x8.com/

Set the number of VOIP lines to 1 and the test length to 60 seconds and run the test.  If you can, try running the test when you are experiencing your call problem.

Hi, thanks, but it has to do with the AT&T HD voice. The iOS 9.1 update fixed it. Best

There is a simple yet effective solution that I offered a business client today.  If you are having issues with the WIFI-C then if you powercylce your home wifi it should allevieate the connection issues that you are having.  That has been and will always be first line of defense with WIFI-C and wifi issues in general.
