Visual Voicemail on iPhone 7 plus with gophone?

I've been in to my local AT&T store twice and been on multiple chats with Apple. My visual voicemail on my iphone 7 plus never alerts me and never shows up. I purchased the carrier free version directly from Apple, so I own it and have only had it a few weeks. I can hold 1 and dial to hear voicemail, but it never notifies me. I'm on the $45 plan that specifically lists visual voicemail as being included. I've reset network configuration, rebooted, restored to factory and used iCloud to restore, restored to factory and chose to set it up as a new phone and none of these solved the issue. The first restore and something a guy did in store pulled over voicemail one time each and I thought both times it was working, but at some point it always quits again. This last time I called my voicemail to check it and had 4 voice mails I had never been notified about and that have still not shown up in visual voicemail. I also noticed that on the few voicemails it did pull over, there's no text translation. In store I was told my account had everything it needed for visual voicemail.

Has anyone else had this issue? I really need to at least receive notifications!

I am also having issues with visual voicemail, I just joined GoPhone and have an unlocked iPhone 7. I'm only getting basic voicemail when I tap on the icon. Would love to know how to solve the problem or talk to someone who can.

If you are having the same problem (no visual voicemail on an unlocked / sim-free iPhone), call technical support and ask them to change your visual voicemail "class of service" from Android to iPhone.  For some reason, for visual voicemail purposes, AT&T's system treats the unlocked / sim-free iPhones as Android devices by default and visual voicemail doesn't work unless it's configured on AT&T's end for an iPhone.  The Level 1 support likely won't be able to fix this, but they can connect you to advanced technical support who can and should know right away what to do.

I have had 2 2-3 hour sessions. They give you someone reading off a list before you can talk to a real tech. The real tech gets it working for a day and then it stops. Why is this so hard?? iPhone 7plus

I have an unlocked/SIM free iPhone 7 and the $45 monthly account option.  Visual Voicemail was working fine until either right before or right after the release of iOS 10.3

Before calling tech support; I completely restored my iPhone both from scratch and from an iCloud backup.  Each time, I was told by iTunes that a carrier settings update was needed.  I tried restoring WITHOUT that update once and WITH it once.

Finally, I called tech support and they performed the following steps:

1) Tech Support reset my voicemail password which triggered my phone's visual voicemail interface to come up (finally) and stop just calling it when hitting the voicemail button; however new voicemails left did not download or trigger a notification

2) Tech Support removed and re-added "Visual Voicemail for iPhone" on my account which triggered the phone to put me through the "setup visual voicemail" experience.  However, when I went through this process, I kept getting error messages.

I did a restore again and now the phone is back to simply calling my voicemail (and notifiying me once (and only once) when I get a new voicemail).  I have a ticket that has been submitted to their level 3. I'll keep people posted.

45 minutes on the phone yesterday and 45 today, two advanced support technicians, and still no resolution. Completely ignoring my "class of service" recommendation from the above.

No.  Spent another three hours with GoPhone support and they said they would add me to a case they have with Apple.  No one can figure it out.  To add insult to injury, forum monitors keep telling me to contact them to chat.  GoPhone customers can't chat with support.  Still not solved.
