Using refurbished device

I'm buying a new iPhone and it's much cheaper to buy a refurbished one than brand new. How do I transfer my service over to this phone? I am looking to buy a locked AT&T iPhone 6s. Can I just transfer over my SIM card or are there more steps?

Moving the SIM card will move your service but in order to move personal information and data you'll need to sync with iTunes or upload to iCloud.

Ok great so I don't need to do anything besides move my SIM card over in order to continue getting service? I don't have to notify my carrier?

Great, so it will automatically transfer my service contract to the used purchased device as long as its another at&t pad?

The new pad is used not refurbished, it will still transfer over with the SD card? Just want to be sure before I buy it from him.
