Upgrade wife's account and switch vs. Shared Upgrade
So it's iPhone time... wife is eligible, I am not. (Next year, I will be - we are staggered a year apart.)
Every other year, as with this one, I upgrade her phone, then switch them so I get the new iPhone, and she gets my previous one (and then we sell her old one).
My question is, if we're on the same account, what is the difference between doing this and the Shared Upgrade option?
Thanks in advance!

Hello @dangraney
That’s a great question! I’d be glad to help you out.
What you have previously been doing is a standard upgrade on her line, and then simply using the new device on your line instead of hers.
A shared upgrade is very similar, except that with you can upgrade on your own line using your wife’s upgrade eligibility. Your upgrade eligibility would then be transferred over to her line meaning that she would be upgrade eligible next year instead.
You can find more information by visiting http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=52345&_requestid=490213 and click on the tab Share an upgrade.
Thanks,
Charise
