Unlock Request Denied
Hello!
A friend gave me a brand new phone as a gift, but it is locked to the AT&T network and I do not live in the US. When I tried to unlock my phone in the unlock portal, I got this message:
"We can’t unlock this device because it hasn’t been active for at least six months of paid service.
You can submit a new request after six months of paid service."
Can someone from AT&T help me unlock now? I am currently without a phone 😞
Thank you.

Sorry, no one can help. Unless you can provide proof that full retail price was paid for the phone, the 6 month prepaid service requirement will not be waived. Sounds like your friend gave you a prepaid phone which ATT sells for less than full retail price, that is why there is a 6 month requirement to get it unlocked.

@ajeetanish Then proof of purchase is required.
Phones sold off then prepaid rack are not sold at full retail. The reduced price looks like a bargain, but it comes with a minimum service requirement.
US prepaid carriers all lock subsidized phone for up to 12 months.

Send a private message to @ATTCares. Just realize ATT sells two iPhone models as prepaid phones at less than Apple’s full retail price. If your friend bought either of those prepaid models (iPhone 6 or SE), he did not pay full retail price.
