Syncing with Google contacts

I have my phone set up to sync with Gmail (Google) contacts over the air, through Exchange. It wirelessly updates the info flawlessly from my email program to the iPhone seconds after I make changes online which is great. But I notice it doesn't work the other way around. In other words changes on the iPhone don't get updated on the computer. My worry is that if anything happens to the phone, additions I've made won't be backed up anywhere. Does anyone know if its possible to set it up where changes to my iPhone contacts info is updated on Gmail? Thanks.

When you create a new contact, you can create it on a specific "account" - either the one on the phone or your google contacts.

Tap Groups, then select the desired contact group, then edit/add there.

Thanks for that. I didn't realize there was a difference between the contacts. When I edit on the Exchange contacts on iPhone it does show up online.
