+Poor outgoing call audio

My wife and I upgraded to new iPhone 7's nearly 4 weeks ago. Right out of the box, both phones had poor outgoing phone call audio. People I talk to repeatedly ask me if I'm on speaker phone and tell me I sound like I'm in a tube or tunnel, that I sound "cavey" and distant. Other times, even in the same call, the audio turns garbled and unintelligible. Some calls get so bad that the person can no longer haer me and hangs up on me! The audio routinely fades in and out also. Here is the real strange part, the incoming audio that I hear is always perfect, never changes. The problem is always outgoing only. When my wife and I talk to each other, we can barely carry on a conversation. We hear each other's bad audio. The phones do ocassionally make good clear calls but they are few and far between. This problem occurs anywhere, anytime regardless of conditions or signal strength. We have had full diagnostics (phone & service) by AT&T and Apple. Multiple SIM cards, and phones replaced 3 times!!! Still ne help! We have been with AT&T for years and previously had Motorola Rzr HD androids. They performed flawlessly and we never had this issue until we upgraded to the iPhone 7. My Daughter has had an iPhone 6 on this account for the last 3 years and has no problems at all. Please help! We are at wits end, no one can help us. Apple says it's not the phone, and I gotta believe that since we've been thru 5 new ones so far. HELP!

Hello @Ajax55!

I am very sorry to hear of the recent developments you have had with your new iPhone 7’s; getting a new phone should be a fun and exciting experience. I definitely understand the importance of being able to make phone calls and clearly hear the person on the other end. It would be a pleasure to assist you in getting this resolved.

The first thing we will want to double check is making sure nothing is covering any of the speakers. You will want to make sure there is not any plastic packing covering the bottom holes of the device. If you have a case on the phone, you will want to remove it first; after it has been removed please attempt to make a phone call to see if the sound quality improves.

If the issue is related to coverage issues such as being a great distance from a tower or other obstacles hindering tower connections, a great option is Wi-Fi Calling. The iPhone 7 is compatible with this free feature. In order to set it up, please go to your Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling > Enable On; once it’s been turned on you will be prompted to set up an emergency 911 address to successfully turn this feature on.

Another great option is our handy Troubleshoot & Resolve tool; it’s like having a tech support agent at your fingertips whenever you need one! When you arrive on the page, please select your phone’s make and model, and then choose Phone calls > Other phone call issue > to begin personalized troubleshooting just for you!

I hope all of this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know. We’re always happy to help. Have a great rest of your day!

I purchased a vkworldt1_plus android phone and began using it with my ***** att family plan account. the output audio quality is terrible. I am unable to use it even over wifi and my sick mother is unable to talk to me at all. The purchase of the phone involved a great deal of thought and research and this problem should not be occurring. I am just about ready to purchase a phone from att because i have had zero success using att support. If that is the only sulution will not purchjase a att phone but use my old cell phone. I will contract with another carrier for myould i use  daily affairs and use the cell for family plan commumications only. Before i commit to any change somneone said i should attempt to address the problem using this service.

Is there any tech that will address this problem. It is a standard android that has excellent ratings and if any problem exsistI believe it is due to att s failer to even check my connection settings. It has been months since i have tried to use att support due to the treatment i received when attempting to address the simple questions I was asking such as which setting would i set if the decive was the same version android system sold by att, No such question would they attempt to answer. I have formed a poor opion of att. is there a tech willing to help me/[edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.]

I just left the AT&T store was in contact with AT&T technical Support. They will be sending a software patch for the network to my phone. Apparently, AT&T has a network issue not only with the 7+ but iPhone 6 as well. You need to call technical support to get the patch sent to your phone.
