How to release my number to new carrier
I’m currently under my mother’s service but I would like to release my phone number to a new carrier. Is there anyway to do this without doing a transfer of bill responsibility? If that’s the only way, will I have to pay a fee for canceling my plan early? I’ve already started a service with another carrier but att isn’t releasing my number and I have all the account information to do so.

Hello there @Chocococoa!
In order to complete your request for an account split a transfer of billing responsibility is required. When the request is submitted you're responsible for any unpaid accessory installment plan charges for that transferred number.

@Chocococoa A transfer of billing responsibility is only done to move your line to your own ATT account, not to transfer to another carrier. To port your number to another carrier, all you need is the account number and account pin. There is no termination fee, you are only obligated to pay off your phone. Why is ATT refusing to release it? Is the account past due or service suspended? The account must be up to date to port your number.

There isn't a "cancelation fee", BUT if you bought a phone on payments you still owe the rest of the payments.
If your plan currently owes money for a bill, I don't think you can port to another company.

In order to have AT&T release your phone number you probably need to file a complaint with the BBB / FCC since they are regularly placing a "fraud hold" and saying it is at the request of the consumer (a lie). Then they say you need to bring a current passport to physical office stand in line, and obtain the IMEI number of the phone you returned to them two weeks ago, and be able to receive text messages on your phone that they shut off when they switched service to phone you returned to them after you had called and asked them not to send to you. Total scam, and illegal not to release your phone number for transfer to another carrier. This is why so many vow never to do business with AT&T again.
