The deductable is likely more than the insurance repair will cost you.

If still under warranty, you don't want anyone but Apple touching the phone

typical deductable is $199 for the iPhone, reduces by $150 at 6 month without a claim and $99 at 12 months with no claims.

The new iPhone 6s Plus has a $140 replacement cost, the 5s $100 or less.

At a minimum, try taking it to an apple store (make an appointment) and let them give you an estimate for the screen repair. It may well be less than the deductible or $0 if the genius is in a good mood that day.
