Can you change the number to your new upgrade phone to another number on your plan?
Just got an upgrade , but son on plan ruined his phone ( water) and I want to give him my upgrade ( my phone is still fine) and put his number on the upgrade instead of my number. Can we do this and still keep our numbers?

It’s unfortunate your son damaged his device. However, I’m glad you do have the means to swap it with yours. I’ll be happy to share some information!
The phone number is associated with the SIM card. What you can do is exchange the SIM card from the broken phone into the one you want him to use. This will work as long as they are both the same size. If they are in fact different sizes or if the water affected the SIM as well, you can swing by a local store to pick up a new card.
