Can Verizon iPhone 6s be unlocked to ATT GSM?

I'm getting very mixed responses from all of my google searches.  Some say that Verizon must sell phones unlocked now and that the iPhone 6s can be used on ATT.  Other say that's absolutely absurd.  I'd like to get an educated response.  I have a chance to pay off a friends 6s so that they can upgrade to the 7, leaving me with a bill of $140 for a brand new iPhone 6s.  I have ATT Prepaid, let me know what you think!

A Verizon iPhone 6s is sold unlocked and will work on ATT just fine. Verizon was required to sell their phones unlocked by the FCC as a condition for spectrum they purchased.

Okay.  Thank you.  That is what seemed to be the case but you can never be too sure.  I didn't wan to purchase the 6s only to have it not work on ATT for me.

Ditto.   The Verizon iPhone 5s and newer are all unlocked out of the box and all fully compatible with all other carriers.  ATT, T-mobile and Sprint.

I had a Verizon iPhone 6 Plus.

Older iPhones either do not have LTE bands, or may not have a sim slot (iPhone 4)
