What would it cost to get the phone removed from the blacklist?

I recently just bought an iPhone from someone who said that the phone was unlocked. I took it in to put service on it and found out that apparently it is blacklisted with at&t. The man at the register said that I could take the phone into at&t, would it cost to get the phone removed from the blacklist? I need to put service on it asap and this whole process has been delayed for some time.

You were scammed. AT&T will not unlock the phone or remove the phone from the lost/stolen list without the authorization of the previous owner. If you can't get your money back, the phone is useless.

my mother gave me a iphone that she lost a year ago . It was insured so it was replaced with a prorated cost for the new iphone , She is still an active account holder and user. She found her  lost iphone about a month ago. Me and my husband has service through cricket which is affiliated with AT&T. My husbands phone screen shattered when dropped last week and my mother gave him the iphone that was lost and now found so he could get it activated with cricket. Mom and I took the phone to Best Buy today cause she was having a hard time remembering her apple ID password, which the phone kept asking for so we had a session with the Geek Squad Alex was his name which we explained everything as I have here . Got the Apple account password and removed all of moms contacts ,messages and etc. to where its blank and what we thought unlocked and ready to activate with Cricket. Cause that was the ending purpose for going to Best Buy aka Geek Squad. So off we go to return home call cricket  and there it is a block because the phone was reported lost  a year or so ago.  So whats my next step do i have to wait until morning to get anything done or is there a way to do this on line.  Sincerely Connie

@Bubbagirl65   Since the lost phone was replaced by insurance, it was blacklisted by the insurance company.  Technically, the insurance company now owns the lost phone and they won’t remove the phone from the blacklist.  There is nothing you can do to get it removed.
