iPad Wifi + 3G issues with IPSEC VPN

Good morning everyone,

Has anyone else had an issue with an iPad 3G + Wifi connecting to VPN and actually pasing through traffic to the internal network?  It's a similar problem with an iPhone without an enterprise data plan.  You can connect to the VPN and login, but no traffic passes through.  I have a 2GB data plan on my brand new iPad.  I have several other iPad users here at my company who have the exact same issue.

Here's what I know:

VPN over wifi works fine.

If I take the SIM out of my iPhone 4 (which works fine with VPN) and place it into my iPad (after changing the APN), VPN works on 3G and Wifi

If I put back the iPad SIM, it does not work.  Also, changing the APN to anything other than broadband on the iPad SIM does not allow you onto the internet

Changing the iPhone SIM into my iPad and leaving the APN to broadband gets to the internet, but cannot pass VPN traffic, needs to be set to wap.cingular

My iPhone 4 has an unlimited data plan which is also the Enterprise data plan, which allows for VPN usage, the basic personal data plan does not allow VPN.

Which seems to be the case with the iPad.  Any chance the iPad will get a data plan that allows VPN?  It's silly to have a VPN client embedded and not be able to use it at all.

Thanks

Thank you for participating in the AT&T Business Forums Community. The issue you have described appears to be related to the provisioning on your account. We would suggest resetting your network settings to completely rule out the device as the cause. Please see the following steps for instructions on how to reset the network settings:

  • Reset Network Settings
    • Tap Settings.
    • Tap General.
    • Tap Reset.
    • Tap Reset Network Settings.
    • Tap Yes to confirm.

Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, APN, and Wi-Fi profile settings.

If after performing this reset you are still not able to use the VPN properly please feel free to chat with one of our Business Support Specialists by clicking here

Hi hope you can help, I have this problem with a ATT Sierra Wireless 754s hotspot, I have tried the reset on my iPad 3 several times, I called up ATT support and made it through several levels of support queues only to be told by the escalation department that they don’t support VPN. My VPN works fine on my Home wireless or other wifi networks. I would appreciate if you can help as I am an IT person looking to use the iPad for unlocking user accounts on the go and my laptop is too cumbersome to lug around with me when I am on call. Thank you in Advance.

Sorry for late response kind of gave up on this thread  but if you have any isight then I can tell you there is no error message, the iPad conects via VPN I authinticate and get the disclaimer then that is in ICMP is not working after that, it kind of like there is no ports open to support the tunnel accross the ATT hotspot.
