unlocking a phone for use on another carrier

This is not really so much a question, as a complaint. I fail to see how it can take two weeks to unlock a phone that yu want to use o

with another carrier. It certainly doesnt take but a second for them to shut the crap down! the guy at the att store said 2 or 3 days. Well aparently since its no longer activated with att, it will take much longer. What a crock. I should just take this 800 dollar new phone back, and get rid of att once and for all.

Hello @heresyrsign61,

Unlocking your device is extremely important, especially if you’re looking to use it with another carrier. I do apologize about how long your device unlock request is taking. I know this can be a difficult situation, but I’d be delighted to assist you.

The typical processing time for a request is between two and five business days. There have been some issues with the device unlock portal over the last few weeks, causing a delay in some customer’s receiving a response. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. You can check the status of your request anytime online as well to see if there has been any progress.

I’d be more than happy to look into this in further detail if you still have no received a response for your unlock. Please don’t hesitate to come back to this thread with any additional information if you have some more trouble.

Thank you, and have a fantastic day!

We are here to help with your unlock request @annbdubroc.

We need a bit more information from you. Please let us know the answers to the following questions by creating a new thread of your own, as this one is 5 years old.

  • Are you trying to regain access to an old number that you no longer have? If so, it is unlikely that we would be able to provide you with that number as numbers are recycled.
  • Are you trying to port your number out to another carrier? You’ll need to request a Number Transfer PIN to transfer your number from AT&T consumer wireless to another service provider.
  • Are you trying to unlock a cellular device? You will need to submit a request using our Device Unlock Portal.

We look forward to hearing from you!
