I got the unlock code from ATT - i was asked to insert foreign sim and restart and it would ask me for unlock code
However it does not ask for code when powered up
Did you unlock the phone (by swiping the screen or entering the PIN/password) first? If so, see if these instructions from Howard forums help (go to your phone's dialpad to enter the codes):
If your Samsung is not asking for an unlock code and it only reads “Network Locked. Emergency calls only” or “Insert correct SIM card” you can use one of these two formulas: #0111*UNLOCKCODE# #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE#
Did you get this unlock directly from ATT (and did you have to escalate)? Most folks, myself included, are told that unlock codes are unavailable due to exclusivity of the phone.
After inserting the other carrier's SIM and powering up again, you need to swipe the screen to unlock the phone first and only then will you see the dialog for entering the unlock code.
