no one can hear me on Samsung J320A

At least half of the time I try to call someone on this phone I can hear the other people but they cant hear me.  I have called while connected to wifi and not connected.  The phone is updated with the latest version.  This happens at all different levels of battery. Indoors, outdoors, earbuds, and speaker still the same thing.   The phone has never been wet, dropped, damaged in anyway.  I purchased the phone brand new from the att store 6 months ago.  Any ideas why my phone and att hates me?

Howdy @downtown78!

I’m so sorry to hear about your microphone going in and out on your calls. I know firsthand just how annoying this issue can be.  I’d be happy to look into some solutions for you!

The easiest thing to check is if you have a case on your phone. Some cases can cover the microphone and/or speaker on devices if they are made for more than one model.  Have you tried taking off your case and using the phone?  If so, does the issue still occur?  If the issue vanishes with the case off, all you need to do is get a case designed for your phone model specifically.

You may also need to power your device off and back on again, if you have not done so recently.  When the phone is power cycled this way, it reestablishes the connection to the network as well as resets the phone’s RAM system.  Sometimes, the signals from the microphone or speaker can get lost in the phone’s signal boards causing them to cut out. Giving the phone a chance to restart, helps to clear out any backed up signals.

If neither of these options work, the next thing we are going to want to try is a Master Reset.  This process will return the phone back to the original settings, so we are going to want to make a backup first. Please see our Device Support Tool for the steps on how to complete a backup.

Once there, please select your phone’s make and model of device then go to Backup & Restore under Tutorials.  From this screen you should see several options of how to save your information.  Please select the way or ways you want to backup your information, the more the merrier.

After you have made sure everything is backed up, please head to the Troubleshooting section and then follow the steps under Reset device.  After the device resets you can restore your information and give the microphone a go.

This should resolve your issue, but just in case, we will be here to help you further if needed.  I hope you have a great rest of your day!
