is anyone else experiencing problems after the 4.1.2 jelly bean update for the galaxy s3?

My battery drains faster, charging is slower, and it lags a bit more now

I finally had to resort to doing a full wipe and restore to factory settings.

It was bad for me.  I wasn't paying attention and hit "OK" to the upgrade.  After the upgrade, the bettery life suffered and the CPU (based on a utility app) was pegged at 100%.  I suspect that one or more apps had leftover processes that were not cleared during the upgrade.  After 1 hour of not doing anything, the battery drained to 50% and it was running hot.  KIES was not allowing communication to the phone so I had to download an APP to back up my apps.  I have my calendar and contacts through gmail, so those were OK.  I was able to just drag and copy the pics and videos by plugging it to my computer.  Everything else on the phone was lost (contacts saved to the phone, app data, etc).

Phone is back to normal now, but it's essentially a new phone.  Now adding back all the password, data, pics, adjusting settings, redoing my launcher, etc.  If you can get the phone back to normal without having to do a factory reset, that would ideal.  If you don't have a lot of apps or data, pics (or your phone is relatively new) a full factory reset may work for you.  It worked for me, but with the pain of having to rebuild my phone back to where I had it.

The The S3 is 16GB stock and not unlocked and not rooted.

Good luck.

Installed apps frequently cause issues with an OTA.  A probably the reason why some folks report issues after an updatd, while others don't (or even experience better performance).  A factory reset is probably the only option in this case (after backing up your data, as mentioned). It shouldn't have to be this way.  But if you are suffering from performance issues after an update, its practically the "go to" response.

I too have experieced issue with this update. I had to turn Sync off in order to have my battery last more than a few hours. It seems that the phone was constantly trying to access Wifi non-stop. Turning off Sync has helped me but there are still performance issues that are frustrating to say the least. I've sent a PM to Costumer Care so I'll see if I can get any help there. It's very demeaning to have to manually check my email like some sort of pauper. Smiley Frustrated

Are you going to have any other solutions than just hard resetting the phone? Otherwise I might as well just bite the bullet and get it over with

Thought I was the only one as I didn't find too much information out there.  I see no solutions other than just the hard reset on the phone.

I just did a soft reset on my son's Nokie Windows Phone as that was overheating and battery life minimal for a while.  It worked on his.

I kept trying to put off the upgrade but couldn't.  Wished AT&T would get their act together and allow the option to upgrading the software or not.  Me personnally, I wait for all the bugs to be worked out before upgrading any software.  Hate to be the testing platform for software manufacturers.

A great many issues what occur after an OTA is due to pre-existing apps and settings.  Start from scratch with a factory reset, and reinsall the apps, and lots of times (but not all) this will fix the issues.  Its not possible for manufacturers to release an update that is completely bug free for the millions of different possible combinations of 3rd party apps.  Unfortunately, this is just the way it is.

A soft reset is just a reboot of the phone (same as turning it off, then on again).  And the terms hard/soft reset does not really apply to Android.  They are holdovers from the Windows Mobile world.

What you are talking about with a "hard reset" is called a factory reset on Android (which in itself is a bit of a misnomer, it doesn't "reset" anything, aside from formatting the user data partition).

Did the Hard Reset.....without really downloading any apps...it appeared to be running great.

Then AT&T downloaded/updated all it's crap, Google downloaded all it's crap as well....not to mention Samsung as well.

Now the battery is over heating and is not even close to lasting a full day with very limited use.

It appears most of the apps are loading up as soon as you turn the unit on.  Forcing stops and disabling notifications doesn't make a difference.

Does anyone know of a list of the required apps on the system?  Items that must remain on?
