Hello @biggriggs828

Thank you so much for the great questions, and feedback regarding this update.  It seems that many of you have been able to successfully download the newest Marshmallow OS for the M8 and M9, but if you are still having issues, please see the info below.

M8 Release Details

M9 Release Details

We have heard the feedback about the large requirement of free space needed for the install and have sent this to HTC.  At this time, HTC has advised that the free space required to download M8 and M9 are 1212.5MB (M8) and 1552.88MB (M9).

Once the package is downloaded, the installation requires 150MB (which was already reserved during FOTA download).

Although not supported by AT&T, HTC has advised that customers can sideload the update to bypass the large storage requirement.

Here is the link for your information:

Please contact HTC if you have any questions regarding the below information. Sideloading will wipe your device and restore to factory settings.

M8 - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/.

M9 - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m9-att/news/

If you have other Marshmallow related questions, please join the discussion.  We will announce all future Marshmallow info here.

Hello @biggriggs828

Currently HTC has not yet released to us the Marshmallow update for the M8.

Updates should have gotten to us by the end of 2015 however still no word from HTC.

Thank you,

It's now March 22.  HTC has shown your M8 to be in the "certification" stage of the Marshmallow/Sense 7 update for over a month.  Several ATT M8 customers who have called customer care over the past month and a half also have, initially, been given the story by ATT customer care representatives that the software was having to be re-tested due to "bugs" in the original software.  That, too, was over a month ago with no status report on the update having been given since.  All HTC M8 customers want is an approximation of how much longer we can expect to wait for the update.  Especially since ATT is, officially, the LAST to provide the Marshmallow/Sense 7 update to its HTC M8 AND M9 customers.

Finally just now received a reply from Mo Versi regarding status of the update.  He says; "We're pushing the carrier as much as we can, but, right now, it's looking like the end of April."  So.  Seems like ATT is being the holdup, for whatever reason *coughs* bloatware *coughs.* 😒 On the bright side, at least we have some sort of time frame now.

Just a heads up everyone.  HTC's Mo Versi just posted a status update for the Marshmallow update for the M8/M9 on ATT.  He says they've run into some "slight delay(s)" and are now "looking at approval within the next couple weeks." No idea, at least at this point, what's been causing the delay(s).

Have any ideas on what could be going on?  99% sure you're on to something there, but I just can't think of any issues there could be.  I mean, they've seemingly gotten along ok up to now.

I see that AT&T Marshmallow update is available now for my HTC one M8 phone. But the installation is not going through after downloading the update. I am getting the following error when it tries to install the update:

Opening update package...

E: failed to map file

Please help!

Hmmm ... That's odd... Mine went through without an issue.  Is the update still available for installation? Have you tried turning the phone off, back on, and then trying to install it again?  If the update is still available for installation, but you haven't tried power cycling and attempting the install again, try that.  If the update is still available for installation, you have tried the power cycle and the install still fails, the last resort would be a factory reset and try to download and install the update again.  Failing that, I would take it into an ATT device service/support center, let them know what you've tried, and have them take a look at it.
