home button to close apps malfunction

Whenever I try to hold the home button to close open apps an error message appears and says error occurred in com.android.systemui then the screen locks. What is this error and how do I fix it?

Hello @galaxymega!

Thank you for posting your question! I will be more than happy to assist you with some options to resolve this issue.

After doing some research, I was able to find the possible causes of this error message and its resolution. First, we want to make sure a third party app is not the problem. To find this out please follow these steps:

  • Press Power to begin the boot process from a powered-off state.
  • Once the Samsung company logo displays, press and hold Volume Down until the device fully boots: if successful, Safe Mode will display at the bottom of the screen.

Once on this mode, please check if the issue you are experiencing still happens. If the error stops showing, I recommend uninstalling apps one at a time to identify which one is causing the problem.

If the issue persists, we want to make sure the firmware is not reason. To fix this problem, please complete these indications.

  • Turn Off your phone
  • Press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, then press and hold the Power key
  • When the Samsung logo shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  • When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys.
  • Using the Volume down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Once highlighted, you may press the power key to select it
  • After this, go to the option Yes using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  • From here, wait until the phone completes the process. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key to reboot the phone.

I hope these options resolve your concern. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a nice day!
