Hello @Ricksters,

I can understand how bothersome it is to have your phone stuck in landscape mode, I text only in portrait, so I would not be able to stand it.  I would be happy to help you!

To start, let’s make sure the settings were not reset during the software update.  Please visit our Device Support page, make sure your device is selected and then go Tutorials > Settings > Display

Next, we will try a soft reset.  To do this on the S5 you will need to power the phone completely off, pull out the battery for about 30 seconds before replacing it and turning the phone back on.  This will give the phone a quick refresh.

Lastly, we have a great Troubleshoot & Resolve tool.  Make sure your device is still selected, and then for the issue choose Display.  Please run through the steps completely.

If you are still having issues, wiping the Cache Partition may be needed.  This will not clear out any personal data.  Please start with the phone powered off.

  • Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power.
  • When the Samsung logo appears, release Power only. Continue pressing Volume Up and Home.
  • Release all buttons when the Android System recovery appears.
  • Using Volume Down, select (using Power button) wipe cache partition

Let us know if you are able to get it fixed!  I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello @Ricksters,

Thank you for reaching back out and letting me know you have tried the previous mentioned troubleshooting steps.

The final step is to factory reset the phone.  This will clear out all personalized data so please make sure to completely back up your information and pictures.

Our Device Support page has tutorials on how to backup and reset your device.  Make sure your device is selected, and then go Tutorials > Backup & reset

An alternative is to file an insurance claim if you have insurance on the phone.  You can complete the claim online here

Please let us know if you are able to get your phone back into portrait mode.  Please have a fantastic weekend!

Good Afternoon @Ricksters!

Thank you for informing us of the troubleshooting steps you have attempted on your device. At this point, the next step may be replacement of your phone.

Depending on your account options, you may be able to perform a warranty replacement or insurance replacement. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to let us know!
