Unlock Request Denied

Hi, longtime AT&T customer here. Perplexed as to why my unlock request was denied? The message said something like 6 months of active service required.....I've been with AT&T going on 9 years, that makes no sense to me. Well, to be accurate I had a contract acct with the company up until maybe 3 or 4 years ago, but still stuck with them just moved to prepaid. Regardless, it's been way longer than 6 months, no interruption. Why would I be denied? I can't see any reason I wouldn't be eligible.

The 6 month lock is on the phone, not your account.  Once the phone has had 6 months of continuous service it can be unlocked.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I appreciate that.

I dropped my phone about 6 weeks ago and had to replace it.  I'm wondering why the heck it matters how long I've had the particular device as opposed to an active account? Any chance you could steer me towards a support page or contact info specifically for this issue? If not, no worries I'll keep searching. Thanks again!
