Samsung a8 (2018) only getting H+

Hello all

I have a Samsung A8(2018) phone that I purchased in Spain .I am here in Los Angeles, CA for a few months and purchased unlimited pre-paid plan. I can only get H+ no 4g. I had a TMobile SIM before and 4g worked fine. Do I have to change settings to get the 4g to work? All help will be much appreciated

We can definitely provide you with some troubleshooting steps for when you're experiencing cellular data connectivity issues. To use AT&T 4G (HSPA+) or 4G LTE data services, you may need to program your data settings for a compatible, non-AT&T Android™ device. You can Learn how to program your Android device with the correct AT&T APN and MMS data connection settings .... If you're still having issues, we recommend using our Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool to fix this. Simply select your device and the issue, then follow the steps to find a solution. Let us know if this helps.

I have tried the settings that you sent and it still does not lock onto the
4g network. Any other suggestions?

H+ is 4G 

If using prepaid you will drop to H+ for calls anyway.   

I cannot confirm that phone you purchased has LTE bands for At&t.  Att main bands are 12\17.   Alternate bands are 2,4,5,30,66.

Hello, @HRSpain,

 

Let's see if we can enable 4G on your device. Go into Apps>Settings>Mobile Networks>Network mode. Select LTE/WCDMA/GSM. Let us know if this helps.

Hello, @HRSpain,

 

It might be that 4G will not be able to be enabled for your device. Did you try the troubleshooting link provided above? Did it find anything? Please let us know.

If you look at the graphic attachment of my post earlier, the 4 sub-model of Galaxy A8 are all not compatible to AT&T 4G lte. Unless the OP's Spanish model is not one of those 4, there will be no 4G service.

The phone has all the bands for LTE...  But att systems see it as a 3g only device.  https://www.samsung.com/sg/smartphones/galaxy-a8-a530/SM-A530FZDDXSP/

 

 

You can buy a cheap att prepaid smartphone and have them use that imei on your account and you will get LTE.

Hello @HRSpain

 

If you have tried the troubleshooting steps for the particular device and 4G does not appear on the cellphone, it would mean that the 4G feature is not available to that particular device.

Have you checked for current software update for the SM-A530f model?
