Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge issues with WiFi

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing poor WiFi performance with thier Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? My phone connects fine, has full WiFi service, everything else in my house that uses WiFi works perfectly fine. However, when I connect my new phone to my WiFi network it get very poor performance and lose many connections to things such as Facebook and Youtube. When I turn the WiFi off and use 4G, the phone works great.

I use an Apple Airport Extreme with default settings with exception of SSID. If I recall correctly, I'm using WPA2 Personal for security mode.

Anyone else experiencing WiFi issues?

Hi @euphoria5125!

Thanks for posting, and congratulations on receiving your brand new S7 Edge!

I’m sorry to hear that your Wi-Fi connection isn’t working as expected. What device were you using before the S7 Edge, and did it work properly with your home Wi-Fi network?

If you change your Airport’s SSID settings to default, does it make a difference? Have you had the opportunity to connect your S7 Edge to a different Wi-Fi network, to see if the problem is isolated to your new device?

Please let us know your results and we’ll be happy to troubleshoot this further with you.
@Samsung may also have some tips to help us get this resolved.

Thanks!

Hi Spencer,

I've attempted to get my Wifi working on other Wifi network and I'm expericening the same issues. However, I did come up with a solution for now. The solution was to connect to my 5ghz network through my Airport and that seemed to do the trick. Although, it's still inconvienent that I cannot connect to 2.4ghz networks.

On my 2.4ghz network, I've tried different Security models and even tried no wireless security and that didn't fix it. When connected to the 2.4ghz network I can see that I get an IP but experience very slow internet performance, despite the fact that I'm right next to the router with full reception.

Previously, I had a Galaxy S5 and had no such issues. My wife still has her S5 and also doesn't have an issues. Not sure what's going on here. Any tools I can get to better understand the issue, such as a tracert utility for something?

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. You would think they test on real devices for WiFi.

Don't mean to bring up and old thread, but I was wondering if you ever got this problem fixed? I've been having the same issue since I got this phone.

I just bought 2 galaxy s 7s one had the same issue. The phone with the wifi issue was my wife's, it  was strange, it worked good on other wifi networks just not at home. I have an AC router

so I have a 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz channel. I tried them both and got the same result (did not work) meaning it would connect but not obtain the internet. My phone (same as my wife's works fine). We replaced the the phone and all is good now. To make a long story short my advice is to hurry and replace within the 14 days. Don't mess around with it. If there is in fact a problem chances are it's only going to get worse with age.

I called samsung tech. They said they already released new patch two weeks ago. But AT&T doesn't provide it yet. My friend who has same phone by T Mobile got device updated by notification last week.
I called AT&T tech. They said I needed to go Bestbuy to see samsung tech.
So I just stopped by AT&T service center before Bestbuy. Nobody knew this issue. They just said I need to wait for new patch.
I guess AT&T has hierarchy communication problem between organization and customer request.

Any chance of Samsung or att paying for my data overages? It's only $30 so far, but still 5 days left in my cycle. We never go over cause we have wifi everywhere, but just got 3 new s7 edges on our account and wifi is intermittant on all of em till we get the patch.
I don't know if I know how to change channels, frequencies or any other possible fixes on my wirelease router.
I saw in one post about changing router to IPv4 instead of IPv6 but I don't know about that either.

Finally AT&T released update patch today.
My phone is working fine. It is horrible customer care experience. It's been 3 weeks. I really want to pay off my device asap.

Turn on developer options. Check "Use Legacy DHCP client"
