Hello, @ReilaB,

We'd love to help. You should be able to set an individual notification. Try this:

  1. Tap the Conversation you wish to set up a custom notification for.
  2. Tap the three dot menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap People & options.
  4. Tap Notifications.
  5. Tap Sound.
  6. Tap the desired tone.
  7. Tap Save.

Let us know if this helps!

Hi Thanks but that doesn't help.  I have tapped on the three dots (aka) additional menu options while in the chat. I am not given the same options you have listed.  My choices are: notifications, add & remove, or block contact.

Selecting notifications gives me two choices: Default or Custom which has the settings gear for more options.

When I select Custom the settings are : On, Importance, Sound and Vibrate. In order to have any sound at all I have to change the level of importance to High or Urgent as the default setting is Low or no sound.

In that same section under sound: The default notification sound I chose in a diff part of the phone settings is already in use. I am not allowed to change the sound from within the chat.

In the past I have always been able to assign both ringtones and text sounds to a contact through "Contacts" where you can put in numerous and varied fields of info individually such as address and email...

With the A6 this is not an option.

In addition to this annoyance, when I want to text someone I have to go into  my contacts first, then select the person second, then select the text icon third, and then thrown in is a fourth step that requires me to hit a start button to begin the conversation. This takes the convenience of a text away completely as it takes more time to send one which I may or may not even receive the notification for based on having given that contact a priority level prior to texting them or not.

This Samsung Galaxy A6 phone has got to be by far the biggest money dump made by the company yet and I thought my S6 Edge plus phone was bad. It cost nearly 900 bucks or more brand new first out with the extra memory and never held a charge and reformatted everything on the screen making many day to day tasks to hard or frustrating to use. I cannot believe I was mislead into buying this phone and having had it for a month cannot even pay the restock fee to upgrade to the Note 9 which was what I was going to get before being lured into this one in an ATT store.

Couldn't figure out why the sales guy was trying to push these phones on us when he could have sold us more expensive ones.  We were stupid enough to purchase two of them.  They must have had an incentive program going for the sales guys because the store manager wouldn't let us mail the phones back to the store we purchased them at which is nearly 400 miles from where we live and on the flip side we could not mail them to ATT directly as they were not bought on line. This made it impossible to get them back to the OPP to do any upgrading prior to the 14 days which you are given to decide if you like the phone or not.

So depressing to be stuck with this phone.

All of my text messages initially came through with no sound.  I have to go into each conversation or text after receiving it, and change pr  This sound is the same for all of my cont

Now don't get your feathers all ruffled up over the entire phone because you can't figure out a feature.  To assign an individual ringtone, you set the person's importance level to 'high' under ''customize". From there you can customize an individual notification sound.
