I have a similar problem like this. It started almost 48 hours ago out of the blue. My phone couldn't keep a charge for more than 5 hours, it was overheating, my mobile data was nonexistent (I can still use WiFi luckily), I could not send or receive texts/calls (if I was able to get any text out it was hours later or not at all). I have not downloaded any new apps in the last couple days, my airplane mode is not on, I have not dropped it or spilled anything on it, my sim card is intact and fine, it can't even charge the battery while I use it now, if I want to charge it, i need to turn it off. I thought maybe I needed to update and my phone just didn't alert me. So I checked and updated, and still couldn't send texts or calls. The places where I've tried using my phone are not in a basement or an area that isn't covered by at&t (my home, my work, and other places I frequent). I really, really do not want to factory reset my phone, I've tried seeing what troubleshooting I can do. Is there any explanation for this sudden change in my phone? Is there a solution?

Have you heard anything regarding this? My wife and I both have S6 Actives and have been having the same issue the last couple months.  OUr phone is still under warranty so they are sending replacement phones but I don't think it will fix the issue.  When I purchased the phone back in Decemeber it worked great up intil what I believe was an adroid software update.  I've been through 2 factory resets on my phone and 1 on my wife's and the issue still appears.  The symptoms are terrible data and cell service and as a result, the battery overheats and drains very quickly.

Looks like the exploding battery issue is on more devices than the S7 including the s6 Active.
