Random Beeping noise during calls

I have a Galaxy S5,  during calls it randomly makes a beep sound as if the person on the other end is hitting the keypad.  It is totally random sometimes happening once during a call and other times happening 7 to 8 times or more.  The call timer is not on and it does not happen every minute. It is also not a notification, as no email, text or calendar event is noted. I have changed phones twice.

Hello @Tweedy!

Thank you for reaching out about this! Indeed, that is quite an unusual issue, I can definitely see how it would get annoying after a while!

Perhaps this is your call waiting, indicating another call coming in. It may also be an error with the touch tone system. The network may be misidentifying a sound on one end of the call, and reproducing it on the other end as a touch tone sound (like a number press).

Some people have reported success in removing this error by disabling Enhanced LTE (HD Voice) on their phone. This can done on your S5, by going to Settings > Data Usage > Mobile Data > Enhanced LTE.

Let us know if this helps! I appreciate the question, and welcome to the AT&T Community Forums!

It does the same thing with my s-5 and my iphone 6s plus. Very annoying. Enhanced LTE is shut off. Its not a beep like a key pad, it's a loud beep. No pattern that i can tell.

Hello @steve1cindy

I am so sorry that this is happening to you as well! I will be happy to help!

Does this by chance happen in certain areas? Since this is happening on two totally different devices, I am curious if it is an issue with the network/tower that you are connected to. Also, is there anybody else in your area that experiences this as well?

If so, I recommend using our app Mark the Spot to report this issue. This will send a report directly to our network team, for them to look into and make improvements!

Just let us know! Thank you and have a great day!

I have the same issue - only thing I've noticed is it happens when I am using headphones. Figured it was something with the jack or compatibility issues with the headphones.

It seems to be issue with microcell. Most of the times, when I answer calls on when covered by microcell, I hear very loud beeep. I never faced this, when using regular AT&T signals.

Please guide me how to resolve this.

Hey @Km2krish!

Thanks for posting on the Community Forums!  I am sorry to hear you have been experiencing the same issue with your phone and Microcell.  I would be happy to help!

When an issue like this comes up with the Microcell, one of the first things we will want to check is the registration state of the device.  This can be done by checking out the Microcell Settings in your online account.  You will see the device status listed beneath the serial number.

Another good option is our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool, which can help identify and fix many different concerns with devices.  You would want to make sure your model of Microcell is showing, and then click on Microcell not working.

I hope this information helps.  Have a wonderful day!

I can't shake of this feeling that there is something more behind this beeping sound.

Problem: Loud beep sound (or touch pad sound) during calls

1. Other line cannot hear the beep. Only I can hear it

2. There is no incoming calls

3. There is no technical problem or lack of knowledge from the consumer side

4. So many people complains of this but at&t does not give any clear answer or solution.

You know what I am thinking?

It sound like (beeping noise) someone is recording or hearing of your personal calls on the other side. What if biggest telecommunication company works with government agency to get people's private information? Maybe I watched too much movie but think about it.

Hi there,

I have the same issue with microCell (mC). Most of the times, when I answer calls from numbers that are registered on our microCell (and not even connected to the mC at the time of the call) , I hear two very loud beeps that I could describe even as harmful for your hearing because of its intensity or very high decibels, feeling it worse when answering a call on the airpods.

I have already tried the Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool, but I couldn't find a good option to troubleshoot since the mC is working, or at least is doing what is supposed to do, which is strengthen the signal on our phones.

Any other ideas on what to do about this?

Were you able to discover what the cause of this was, the beeping? I am a AT&T customer and I have 2 new phones and the beeps continue on most phone calls no matter who I am speaking with. AT&T hasn't solved the issue.

To be clear, it sounds like someone on the other end is pressing buttons on the phone, but they can't hear it. I always ask if they are pressing buttons, but they say no.

Thanks!

You are correct.  It seems that we may have stumbled onto a major privacy issue.  I have had the problem for over a year and now it is on my ATT home landline too.  I really think it is a privacy issue.  There may be some type of computer recording conversations.
