Private mode failed to turn on

My Galaxy S7 Active yesterday and now I cannot access private mode.  It allows me to enter the correct pin and then says,"Failed to turn on private mode. Try again"  Any suggestion to resolve the issue?

Thank you

Hello kgroves4!

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forums! I’m sorry you are experiencing this issue. I will be glad to help you get the private mode feature for your device working again!

The first step to try and fix private mode is to restart the phone. Hold the Power Key > Select Power off. Leave the phone powered off for around 10 seconds, and then power it back on. This should restart the private mode feature, causing to to work again.

If you are still experiencing the issue, I recommend trying to clear the cache/partition of your device. To do this, please follow the steps blow:

With the device powered off, press and hold the Power/Lock, Home, and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the Android Recovery screen appears. Use the Volume Down key to highlight “Wipe cache partition”. Use the Power key to select this option. Then scroll to the “Reboot System Now” and select it. Once the phone restarts, test private mode out.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need any assistance!

Neither of those procedures worked for me on my Galaxy S7. I still get the error message "failed to open private mode, try again." Any other ideas?

Hello @didhedielawn,

I am sorry to hear you are also experiencing this problem. I will be glad to assist you!

Checking for additional software updates is very important. These can contain fixes and performance enhancements for your device. To check for updates, you will head to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates. You can make sure you are on the most up-to-date version by confirming it on our Device Support Page. Select your make and model and scroll down to Software Update to double check your version.

If your phone is up-to-date, visiting one of Samsung’s experience shops can allow them to take a physical look at the phone and re-flash the software on the phone. I would highly suggest backing up any information you would like to keep to ensure it isn’t lost during this process. On our Device Support page, you can go to Tutorials > Backup & Reset to view the available options for saving your information.

Let me know if this information helps!
