To help add clarity with your question, have you checked the gallery app on your android after installing the software? Have you backed up and synced your files, media, and photos before the device update? If you have not done the requirements as mentioned, then you would not be able to recover the missing photos.
We would recommend using our AT&T Messages Portal which you can be able to back up and transfer all you files and photos into the AT&T cloud and transfer them to any capable device for further use.
If you continue to have trouble with your cellphone, feel free to use our AT&T Troubleshoot & Resolve/ Galaxy S9, 9+ and select which issue and follow prompts to help get your device up to speed.
