Hey @JamesMatula,

So sorry to hear you got locked out of your tablet. I did this to my Samsung one time and it’s just not fun at all. I would be more than happy to assist you with getting back into your tablet and on your way.

The best and easiest way in order to get back into the device is to factory reset it. Please keep in mind, this will delete any personal items on the tablet, such as pictures, apps, etc. Without being able to get into it with the preferred security measure which was already set up, this would be the only way to get back into the device.

In order to factory reset, you will want to:

  1. Power the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power/Lock button and Volume-up key until you see, ‘Android recovery’ at the top of the screen.
  3. When the Android Recovery screen appears, press the Volume-down button to scroll down until 'Wipe data/factory reset' is highlighted, then tap the Power/Lock key to choose.
  4. Press the Volume-down button to scroll down until 'Yes' is highlighted, then press the Power/Lock button to select.
  5. When the Android Recovery screen displays again, ensure that 'Reboot system now' is highlighted, then press the Power/Lock button.

Once this is complete, you will be able to set up the tablet again like it’s brand new. If you used a Gmail account with the tablet, please be sure to enter the same one you used when originally setting it up to continue.

I hope this has been insightful for you! Thanks for reaching out to us and have a splendid rest of your week.

I am having the same problem. I have done the factory reset and started the setup process. Google asks me to sign in with account, which i do. I get a new device notification on my phone showing the login from the zte88. It sends me a verification code to my phone which i then enter into the tablet.
Google then say that i need to sign in with the account i signed in with when i originally set up the tablet. Its the only one i have and have had for years. I'm lost and getting a little frustrated.

Hey @Jramos6,

Welcome to the Community Forums! I’m sorry you’re having issues getting logged into your original Google account. Thank you for trying those troubleshooting steps! I will be happy to share some information about this.

Did you originally set up this device? Could there be any other Gmail accounts associated with it? If this is a secondary line it might have been set up with the primary’s Gmail address. With the new operating system update, when you factory reset a device which runs Android Marshmallow this is included as a new security feature.

I look forward to your response, best regards!

If you factory reset a device and it is signed into a Google Account then FRP is active. If you reset the password to the Google Account it triggers a 24 HOUR wait period before it will accept the new password.

I reset my mom tab because she forgot the the pin and now she don't know the email or the password. Is there a way around that to set it up for her again?

The reset worked perfectly, the only problem... it was never set up with a google account & now it won’t go any farther without it. Now what?
