LG V30 H931 Not Receiving Updates

I have an LG V30 purchased through AT&T and with an active account.

I've been fighting the phone to receive an update since September.  The phone is currently stuck on 7.1.2 and Security Update of September 2017.

This, as indicated by the device help section of the website, is two updates behind.  When I try and force a check for updates, the phone says Software is up to date.

The situation is identical to this thread: https://forums.att.com/t5/Android/LG-V30-H931-two-updates-behind-and-will-not-update/m-p/5562128#M107418

I know this is not true and it's causing a security incident with my employer, with whom I can remote into systems from my mobile device.  Customer support has not been very helpful, claiming AT&T has no control over updates and their availability, contrary to what everybody else says.

I just got off the phone with a tech who claimed that visiting Best Buy would solve the issue because Geeksquad can supposedly flash my phone.  LG has said AT&T controls OTA updates and Best Buy suggested contacting AT&T customer support.  This is one insane circle.

I even went so far as to factory reset my phone and wipe EVERYTHING to no avail.  The phone didn't even see the previous update I was at (September 2017) meaning I have gone backwards.

This is absolutely insane and maddening.  I'm 10 months behind on updates and AT&T has been less than helpful.

Hello @deadwood83.

We can definitely provide some helpful information concerning the Android 8.0 Oreo OS Software update for your LG V30 (H931).

You mentioned a security incident with your employer. Does your employer provide the device for company use, or is the device on your consumer plan which you used for work?

When you perform a factory reset your device reverts to the same software version, 7.1.2, as it was originally sold out of the box.

You will be notified Over the Air (OTA) on your device when the update is available. Keep in mind, when available, your next software update should include 8.0 Oreo (File Size 1.8G). We recommend performing all software updates over Wi-FI.

You can sign in to Troubleshoot & Resolve for step-by-step instructions and device specific tutorials.

The device is on a consumer plan and I use it for work.

I have received no notifications of OTA updates for the life of the phone.  I still receive no OTA update notifications despite being on either LTE or Wifi (ATT-provided at work) all day.

I have gone through all the troubleshoot and resolve steps.  There is plenty of storage space available (100gb on SD and 30gb available on phone).  Not sure if baseband qualifies as personal information.

Hi @deadwood83

Your best bet will probably be to reach out directly to the manufacturer to see if there's a way they can manually push the update to you. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I have reached out to LG and spoken with several people.  All representatives indicated that LG does not have the update file for AT&T.  In this instance, the AT&T servers host the V30 updates.

Three days and no response?  I'll give the customer care number one more try before contacting the BBB.

Three days and no contact, no response, just a notice that my bill is available.

Is there a preferred escalation route before going to the BBB exploring my options with the FCC?

Call ATT and ask for tech support.  They will have to put in a ticket to update OS by your IMEI.  I’m guessing it’s not registered in ATTsystem

goto a ATT store and have your sim card replaced.  That should update everything in the system.  As a friendly statement LG sucks at updates period..  As for the FCC that is a waste of time as they dont have the right to control software..  Come to think of it I dont think any agency does..  The bad part is ATT and LG will continue to pass the buck back and forth.
