LG V20 disconnecting from home wifi

My LG phone continually disconnects from my home Uverse service.  I've powered down the modem and the phone, disconnected from the network and reconnect but still the problem persists.

Hello @al2020!

Try resolving your experience by following these steps:

  • From the home screen, select Settings
  • Scroll to and select Storage > Cached Data > OK
  • Once the cached data clears, the storage screen refreshes and cached data will not be listed, meaning your cached data is successfully cleared.

Afterwards, please verify whether your device maintains a connection to your Wi-Fi.

We hope this info helps!

Hello @al2020,

Thank you for informing us. Your cell phone is most likely automatically switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data, due to a mobile data connection option in your settings called Smart network switch. If this setting is causing your LG V20 to constantly disconnect from your home Wi-Fi, we recommend that you disable it by following these steps:

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.

2. Tap and hold on the Wi-Fi icon.

3. Tap the Menu icon.

4. Tap Advanced Wi-Fi

5. Tap the status switch beside Switch to Mobile Data to turn off Smart network switch.

Let us know if this helps.

Hello @al2020,

If you're unable to tap the status switch beside the Switch to Mobile Data setting, but it is already turned off, clearing the cached data may help. Please follow these steps to clear the cache partition:

1. Power off your LG V20.

2. Hold the power off, volume up, and the home button simultaneously.

3. After your LG V20 vibrates once, it is put into recovery mode.

4. Search for the entry called "Wipe cache partition" and select it.

5. Once the process is completed, you can restart your device by selecting "Reboot system now".

Let us know if this helps.

Hello @al2020

We're here to help!

Are you having connectivity issues with both cellphone and internet modem? Has the disconnection happened recently or is a recurring problem? Have you checked for software updates for both devices?

You can access our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool/ LG V20 by selecting Software Update and WIFI to determine the best solution to get your device connected.

We hope this helps, and have a good weekend!

The connectivity issue is with my cellphone. At any time, after Ive
connected to my home wi-fi, it will inexplicably disconnect and when I
go to Settings, the Wifi status shows Disabled. This is a reoccurring
issue and though I've called and posted for help, no one has been able
to provide a solution other than to power off both devices and
reconnect.

Thank for the reply @al2020!

Are other devices in your home unable to connect to wireless internet modem? Are the devices are up to date with current software.

There are no issues with other devices; the laptop and wireless printer
connections are fine.

On this phone there isn't a cached data option under storage.

That setting is already off. It is actually grayed out so I can't change it.
My settings under advanced Wi-Fi currently are:
Wi-Fi notifications - ON
Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off - YES
Switch to mobile data - Grayed out
Passpoint - ON

I was finally able to clear the cached data and that seems to help.  The WiFi still disconnects when the phone goes into sleep mode even though I've selected "keep WiFi on when screen is off".  But, the situation is much better so that's a small nuisance.  For anyone looking for cached data on the LG V20 the full route to the folder is as follows:

Settings - General - Storage - Internal Storage - Free up space - Temporary files & raw files.
