LG G5 H820 Oreo update outside US

Hello. Isn't there any way to update LG G5 H820 to Oreo outside US? I hope such big company like ATT won't be as low to limit it to only their carrier...

Re: LG G5 H820 Oreo update outside US

Good morning @jijibu,

Thanks for reaching out! In order to receive updates for your LG G5, you’ll need to be in the US on the AT&T network. If you return to the US, and are back on the AT&T network, you can check this support article on how to update the LG G5 with the latest software. Please let us know if you have any further questions, or concerns.

did this rep even READ what the customer said?  They are outside the USA and NOT a ATT customer.  They WILL NOT GET UPDATES PERIOD.  @jijibu  ATT only provides updates to its customer FOTA or Firmware over the Air.  You have to be a ATT customer connected to a ATT tower here in the USA to get updates.  Sorry I don't have better news for you.

 Hey @GLIMMERMAN76,

I'm not sure how I missed the notification of you tagging me so I apologize about the delay in looking at this. You're 100% right; customers outside of the US will not receive these updates. Thank you for setting the record straight.

I'll be sure to get this feedback to the management team over ATTCares so they can look into this further. Thank you!

I guess the question is how in the world can a carrier in the United States provide an OVER THE AIR update to someone who isn't even on their network? Does LG even have a manual method to flash software?

Because Samsung can do it on devices.

@David606

because ATT is stupid with updates.  I can update a Tmobile device anywhere in the world.  ATT does a IMEI check of the phone before it will allow a download of the software Tmobile does not.  Also ponder this the update is NOT OTA because you have to be on WiFi to download it in the first place so the data is not even carried on the cell network.

And with other carriers branded phones you can use samsung smart switch BUT NOT ATT.

Re: LG G5 H820 Oreo update outside US

Hello, if someone in the U.S. can sniffer the OTA Update file download URL, that will be fine.

We can use LGUP - FOTA UPDATE feature to flash OTA Update FILE that comes with dot up file extension.

For example K37110b-K37120j.up  This is the Android N 7.0 OTA Update file for LG K371,  SO some LG K371 Users outside the U.S. can download this file and use LGUP to install the Update.

Re: LG G5 H820 Oreo update outside US

One can update software outside the USA. From Canada for sure. First purchase an AT&T sim, then activate, no need to input your credit card details. The sim will activate if one inputs the required information on the first two AT&T web pages in the sim activation website; see AT&T prepaid activation guide for steps required and the explanation of each step. After the sim has been activated and installed in the AT&T LG phone the phone will connect to the AT&T server and it will update outside the USA. Again follow instructions on how to update software on an android phone. I have done this twice now to update and it works seamlessly in my case the Rogers network in Canada. I too contacted AT&T help in the past and received mixed information, finally one technical person confirmed that it is possible , several had informed me it was not possible. Hopefully this is helpful. I am updating to Oreo as I type.

Not true. One can update outside the USA provided one has a AT&T sim installed and activated.
