Iphone to droid not getting texts

I just switched from an iphone 4 to a galaxsy S3. The problem I am having is I can not recieve any texts from friends with iphones. I have turned off imessage on the old iphone and unregistered it from apple's site, but I still do not get texts.  Has anyone else had this problem? If I can't get it figured out soon I am going to return this thing.

if they are sending with imessage and have SMS turned off in Imessage you will never see the text, imessage only talks to imessage and nothing else

Do your friends with iPhone have a text messaging plan? or are they only using iMessage?

iMessage only works with iPhones and apple products, and if your friends do not have a text messaging plan, you will not recieve any text messages from them

I am having same issue, but not from all of my contacts that are iphone users.  And all of them have texting plans but also have imessage enabled.  Sometimes I will receive their text, especially if I send them one first.  But like I said, do not have the issue with everybody.  I even had one friend delete my contact and put me back in, still not working like it should.  Imessage shouldn't be the problem, because I had my iphone set up to imessage when possible and no one I ever text had problems receiving them.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I had this problem when I switched from a 3GS to a Galaxy S2 last fall.

Here's what I believe the problem is:

Apple's iMessage essentially intercepts all "text messages" from the iPhone. It checks if the recipient has an iPhone or not. If not, it will send as a text instead of an iMessage. It seems to do a really horrible job of detecting that someone has left the iPhone world. Some of your friends phones must still think you are in Apple land.

I didn't notice this for over a month. I turned my old iPhone back on to get some info off it and all of a sudden I got a bunch of iMessages that had been sent by a select few people. I was mad, called AT&T, they transfered me to Apple who I told to get me out of their system. Haven't had a problem since.

I don't think they would delete your whole iTunes account, just take the iPhone off of it.  Should be a simple thing for them to accomplish.

I currently have an iPhone 4S, since September of 2013 (and previously had an iPhone 3 since January of 2010) and have had no issues texting, or receiving texts, until recently (within the last 3 weeks).  One of my friends has an android phone on T-Mobile, which he has had for several months.  I receive his texts, but he doesn't receive any of mine.  I did the suggested troubleshooting that I found online.....turning off iMessage, rebooting the iPhone, then turning iMessage back on.....making sure that SMS is turned to the "on" position.....deleting my friend's contact information, and re-entering him as a new contact.....deleting our past "text threads".....and he is still not receiving my texts.  Any suggestions as to what the issue might be?  Does my friend need to check any settings in his phone?  (He has never had an iPhone, or been an Apple customer, so resetting an Apple password, or deleting an Apple account is not the issue on his end).

First, there is no easy solution to this as others have indicated. Even taking all the necessary steps listed will not solve the problem 100%. You will not receive messages sent as group imessages for up to 30-45 days after you switch (according to AT&T and Apple) as it can take this long for Apple servers to recognize you are no longer using an iphone. I am 20 days into my switch and I am still having tons of problems even after taking all the steps listed here and in the apple forums.

While it's true that this is technically an Apple problem, it is also legally and contractually an AT&T problem and frankly it's extremely disappointing that AT&T isn't demanding or forcing apple to fix this faster. Simple negligence on the part of both companies [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]. as soon as someone needs help or doesn't get a message to pick up their child.

I was able to get a $100 knocked off my monthly bill from AT&T since I'm signed up for unlimited messaging and I am not receiving these messages. I would encourage all of you who are having this problem to call AT&T and ask for that refund. If enough people start demanding refunds perhaps AT&T will step up the pressure on Apple to get this resolved.

Sorry to disagree with you, if the iphone was using the standard rfp for sms and mms then you would be correct, but in the case here the Apple is making you use a custom written application by them and not utilizing the standard protocol for sending the messages. Even when the text message is forwarded via SMS it is still Apples Imessage farm that is generating the SMS version of the text message.

Why wait 100 days? remove the profile yourself from the imessage server

Have you experienced this problem directly? I'm certainly no messaging export, but I can guarantee you that this does not solve the problem for group imessages. My number has been removed from my apple ID for going on 20 days now and I'm still not getting group imessages.

I've reset my apple ID completely, changed the password, removed all devices, and spent over 4 hours on the phone with all levels of Apple support over the past 3 weeks. Apple assures me there is no record of my phone number on their servers and the problem is that my friend's iphones have somehow cached the fact that I'm an iphone user locally on the phone so it automatically is sending imessage instead of sms.

I've had friends delete the thread, turn on send sms and just about every other suggestion I could find online but to no avail.

Apple says I simply have to wait up to 45 days for each of my friend's phones to update its imessage certificate which will clear the cache on the phone.

I don't know how much of this is true? I'm extremely skeptical that this will ever work and frankly I think the Apple support team was just punting so they could get of the phone with me.

If you or anyone else has other suggestions I’m certainly welcome to them.

AT&T gave me a $100 credit, but the truth is, I'd gladly pay double that just to get this solved.

You need to fully sign-out of your old iMessage platform so that when an iPhone user tries to send you a message, your number is no longer assoiciated with iMessage, and it should send it through as SMS (assuming that they have their iPhone setup to send as SMS as well).  You should also check to verify that all your friends with iPhones are sending messages to your phone number, and not your associated email address.  I know that the iMessage app will sometimes "automatically switch to the other" even if the conversation is started using one.  This happens to me a couple times a week, where iMessage switches the incoming messages to be from her phone number to be coming from her email, or the opposite way.

One thing I have noticed is that as long as I have one device still signed in to iMessage, Apple will always default to sending all of my messages that way, so I have to sign-out on all of my devices so that iMessage doesn't see a device to send to.  This includes my Mac, my iPad, my iPod Touch, and my iPhone.  If any of those are still signed in, I will not get SMS messages to my iPhone, just iMessages to the device(s) still signed in.
