One option, send to email.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync

Second option, save to your sd card as an xml file and then copy to the computer.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore

These are just two of the sms backup applications available in the market. Read the reviews and pick the best suited for your needs.
Probably from mobile, maybe. Smiley Happy

Personally, I use SMS back up and restore; it backs up all my texts and contacts.  Stores it either on your flash memory card or internal; creates a folder and stores files that you back up.  Once backed up, you can email the file as an attachment... Works fine for me and it is done under 30 seconds...

Hope this helps

I use Google Voice for SMS so every message is already on Google's servers. If I want to back-up to my PC, I can use Google Take-out. No per message charges and SMS uses very little bandwidth so even a mere 10MB per month is enough for practically unlimited texting. Smiley Happy

+1 for SMS Backup and Restore from Ritesh Sahu.  That and his Call Logs Backup and Restore app are, in my opinion, two "must-have" apps for Android.  (With Titanium Backup being my #1 app, although unlike TiBu, Ritesh Sahu's two backup products do not require root.)

Out of all the applications I can download, SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu is the first one I specifically download to restore all my SMS messages that I have kept since my first android phone.

By the way, to transfer sms from android to computer directly, I recommend this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.veryandroid.smsbackup

It can help you:
 - Copy and backup SMS from Anroid phone to computer.
 - Restore SMS to android phone any time.
 - Send SMS & SMS Chat on computer directly.
 - Transfer SMS to android phone from other phones (iPhone, Windows Mobile, Nokia, Blackberry etc).

 - View SMS messages in threading mode on computer.

Get more info from http://www.veryandroid.com/sms-backup.html

Good luck!
