Galaxy S2 shutting off in idle mode

Recently, I noticed that my phone shuts off while in sleep mode. This just happens when I don't check it for a while and the display is turned off. When I do go to check my phone, it's unresponsive, even if I hold down the power button. So far, I've had to remove the batter every time this has happened in order to reboot it.

I just don't get what the issue is. I'm probably missing phone calls because I'm not even aware that my phone is turning off. I feel like after the ICS update my phone has had issues. I already performed a factory reset last week since I was having a problem with the notifications not ringing and vibrating, and now, this is happening on top of that.

If anyone has any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 i777.

Oh, and another thing, I noticed that my batter is at 95-100% before it shuts off by itself, and once it boots up again it's down to 85-89%. I also feel like it might be an issue with overheating: I noticed that my phone feels hot after I've been using it for a while, like texting or using the internet, and then I set it down to do other stuff when I notice that it's turned off. My phone usually feels really hot too, and the case I have for my phone probably does not help either.

"Go to Solution." Is that a joke? I have had the same issues since since 4.0... ATT sent me a replacement which does the same thing. After the genius at ATT told me that I had to update my wife's phone, it does the same thing. Oh how happy is she? Our contracts started in June, we will be moving to a different carrier unless something is done quickly. Horrible customer service.

Again, my phone was diagnosed as "probably having a bad install of the update" and they reinstalled 4.04. It worked for a day but started again, called ATT who thought it was probably another bad install. Neither hard a word i said about the problems, AND documented issues on the ATT site. They said they would call back and never did.

As soon as my computer gets here, I will be rooting to 4.03 and riding out the test of my contract. Then goodbye ATT. The only way to make a company change it's bad habits is to quit handing it money.

How about a real fix instead of just lip service?  How much longer do we have to go with defective equipment?

I specifically registered to add to the list of people who are experiencing sleep of death issue.

As with everybody else, the problem started with upgrade to 4.0.4

A final update before I fix the problem myself, AT&T called back and I explained exactly what the problem was, that it's documented on their website, and it is the update that THEY pushed out.

She said it's Samsung who pushes out all updates and if I was in warranty or had insurance, they would replace my phone, but since I did not I would have to contact Samsung for any luck on a new phone or working OS.

As far as rooting, is everyone going back to 4.03, because I saw a JB rom on the galaxy2root site.

I spoke directly to Samsung (when I called AT&T originally and they blamed it on Samsung and even gave me Samsung's number). Samsung rep laughed and said Samsung does NOT push out the updates, they only develop them for all of their phones, then they're pushed to all the companies that sell their phones and Google for propietary software (that we all dread!!!), then AT&T pushes the updates to us.

I rooted and installed AOKP JB 4.1.2 and as a part of that gapps.  Hasn't SOD'd since I rooted it back on 2/6.

Rooted and factory 4.0.3. No SOD since 1/18. Should have done JB but since I really didn't know what I was doing stuck with stock. If you have 4.0.4 your going to have SOD.

@ablan59

Can you or someone else point explicitly where on the Galaxys2root.com  site info is on dropping back to 4.03 ICS from 4.04?? What do you do after rooting?

Thanks,
