Encore folder: can it be deleted/moved to SD card?

There is a folder on my phone called "Encore" that is currently using 4GB of my phone's internal storage.  Looking through the files, it appears to be saved copies of all the text messages and associated pictures/videos.  I don't remember this folder even existing prior to the recent change in the AT&T Messages app that allows it to backup to the cloud.

If I delete this folder, will it delete all of the saved text messages on my phone, or only a backup copy of those messages?  Is there any way to have this folder saved to an SD card as opposed to the phone's internal memory?

Hello @Citizen_Snips !

Great question! I will be happy to help!

You should definitely be able to delete this folder without it deleting any of your messages or the back up of your messages. I recommend signing into AT&T Messages first to verify your messages are backed up to the cloud. As long as they are, you can then delete the Encore folder.

If the folder is able to be moved to the SD card, you can do so by accessing Settings > System > Storage > Other > Encore (This may differ between phone models). You can hold down this folder and select the more option in the top right. From here it will give you an option to move! Please check out our Device Support Center for specific instructions for your device. After selecting your make and model, choose Tutorials > Backup & restore > Back up with SD card.

I hope this helps! Just let us know if you have any other questions! Have a great one!

As a follow up to my original post, I found out why the folder was taking up 4 GB in the first place.  One particular photo from one particular text message had somehow been replicated 4000 times in my encore folder.  Each copy had a slightly different (random?) filename and was about 0.5 MB in size.  Once I deleted these, the folder was back down to a reasonable size again.

Correction: the photo was replicated 8000 times (8000 * 0.5MB = 4GB)

Hello @Citizen_Snips !

Oh my! That is a ton of replicated photos!

I am glad to hear that you were able to delete these files, and can’t thank you enough for keeping us updated!

The best why to do this is back up your files and reset the phone

My only issue is how do I find out which photo it is or how did you find out which photo it was. Thank you
