Defective device after 10 days of not returning it

It has been over my 10 days. I am trying to send my device back while also trying to get everything off of it. I do not want to send it back with my information on it and that is why I haven't done so. I'm trying to find a way to get everything off and I have called numerous stores and no one can seem to help me. I just don'the want to get charged because I'm over my deadline. The defective device's screen won't turn on so it's hard. Is there anyway to get extended time on a return?

I believe the return period is 14 days, not 10.
