Can't receive text messages from my husband's phone. He receives mine, I can't receive his.

My husband and I have been able to text message each other since we got our phones. Until a couple of weeks ago, he can receive mine, but when he responds back to me, I don't get the message. We both send and receive from other people. We have update software, re-started both phones, check data usage, etc etc.  Does anyone have a fix??????

Good morning @Lorialice.

It’s certainly a strange situation, him being able to get your messages but you are unable to receive his. Text messaging is a very convenient way of staying in touch, more so in this day and age where calling is no longer the quickest way of communication! Let’s look at some possible solutions for this problem.

The most likely reason for not being able to receive them is if his number ended on your block list accidentally. Please check this setting first. On most phones, it can be found by opening the Messages app:

  • Tap on More in the top right corner and tap on Settings.
  • Tap Message blocking.
  • Tap Block list
  • To remove a number from your block list, tap the Minus icon next to a name or number on your block list.

Please try testing the messaging feature again to see if it works again.

Besides trying this, I recommend clearing all connection data. Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset > RESET SETTINGS. You may need to re-add your saved Wi-Fi networks afterwards.

At this point the messaging issue might be resolved, but if the problem is still happening, please visit our Troubleshoot and Resolved tool. This is an excellent resource which can help us narrow down the cause. Once you are on the page, please choose the brand and model of your device, and select Messaging as the source of the problem.

Please let us know if this takes care of your texting woes. I hope you have a fantastic day!
