ANYONE having issues with google voice not hearing you ive got a quick fix after contacting Samsung
IVE had a 2 month battle with assistant voice, and now its over. go to settings, then language and input, then onscreen keyboards, then manage, turn off Samsung voice or disable in system apps, then retrain as usual the assistant voice. DONE.it appears that since i have a s8 plus and no Svoice, it is older technology and theres no SVOICE on my device. this may or may not work for you, but im posting this to celebrate the end of my battle, since i wont know when i will get bixby voice or others as well. this is not a discussion needing fixing relating to my now working assistant.of course as usual this will be challenged.

I hate to spoil your euphoria, but I applied this fix a while back and it only lasts for a while. It seems every time my phone applies an android update, the google voice stops working again. But, it only takes turning google voice off and then back on to restore it.

As my mother used to say, "what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?" Nothing.
If you purchase the same phone on another network, the problem will still exist. This is a Samsung thing, not an ATT thing.
If you want to avoid the fight, Pixel is the way to go.

@Anonymous And unless you dump Samsung, it's not going away. The only way to get true hands free operation, without a Bluetooth connection "trusted device" is get away from 'versions' of android. The 6p and Pixel respond to 'okay google' while locked.
When my hands are busy, I need my phone to work for me. Ear pieces are just asking to get destroyed, so I never use one. I have a watch, but same problem. (Although I can pocket the watch and phones work)
I just want simple. I want functional. And the Pixel gets reception when the Samsung doesn't. If it weren't for the convenience of wifi calling sometimes, I would sell the GS7.
