Unwanted Voice Messages and Texts

How do I stop someone from being able to leave me voice messages and texts? I already have them blocked on my Samsung Galaxy S7 however the voice messages still get left to my voice mail. The texts till come through to a spam folder. I would rather my phone number to not work for a particular caller.

Good morning @debbie35!

I know it can be a difficult situation dealing with unwanted calls or text messages. I definitely understand the want to avoid this and get those numbers blocked. I would be delighted to share some information with you so we can work towards a resolution!

When blocking numbers through the device itself, all numbers added to the block list will be immediately re-routed to Voicemail and the Spam folder. This is determined by the Settings on the phone itself and cannot be changed. I do apologize if this causes any inconvenience.

A cool feature you could try for your phone calls is AT&T Call Protect. It is free of charge, and blocks calls in the network from scammers and numbers you specify. HD Voice is required on the line in question in order to use Call Protect. You can visit att.com/callprotect to download the app.

If none of these options remedy the situation, you can also change your wireless number. I know this seems like a last resort, but it will eliminate the need to add the number to your block list.

I hope you found this informative! Have a beautiful day!

I'm surprised it was recommended to use ATT Smart Limits. I am able to block the unwanted number from calling or texting my phone free for 30 days.

You're suggestion does not do that.

Hi again @debbie35,

You can sign up for Smart Limits, if you would like. It is another viable option for you to block calls. It is free for the first 30 days and $4.99/month afterwards. I suggested AT&T Call Protect as this feature is always free and will not charge you at any time.

I hope one of these options works for you! Have a good one!

But your suggestion does not offer the solution as the calls still come through and are not blocked.

My suggestion is the solution as the calls are blocked and do not come through.

Great to hear back from you @debbie35!

You are correct, both the AT&T Call Protect and Smart Limits have the ability to block phone calls. They will make sure you do not receive any unwanted phone calls from numbers you add to the block list.

The only time you are alerted of phone calls with the AT&T Call Protect app is if a number calls you which is not already on your block list, and may be potential spam/fraud.

The main difference between the two applications is Smart Limits does charge $4.99 per month after the first 30 days.

I hope this thread has been insightful for you! Thank you so much for reaching out to us. Have a great rest of your week!

I used AT&T Smart Limits for the free trial period. It worked great. Blocked my unwanted phone calls, texts, and voice messages just as I wanted.

Then tried AT&T Call Protect. It blocked unwanted phone numbers and voice messages but not texts??? Why? Makes no sense.

I guess AT&T wants to get into the consumers pockets.

So now I pay for the Smart Limits to do the blocking for me and deleted the Call Protect app because I was getting unwanted texts that I had blocked. smh
