Mexico Roaming Bonus Questions

Two questions about MRB:

1. We have two phones on Mobile Share Value plan with MRB. Do we get 1GB/month per phone while in Mexico? Or do we share 1GB?

2. Is there a limit to how long (i.e., consecutive weeks) we can use our phones in Mexico?

Hey there @dbender49!

These are awesome questions! I will be more than happy to help out today!

With the Mexico Roaming Bonus, the 1GB of data was per line. There is not a limit to how long you can use this, however if you go over the 1GB, you will be charged an additional $20 for an extra 1GB.

I do recommend that you check out our support article regarding Mexico Roam! We actually offer the option for you to use your current plan in Mexico, if you are on a qualifying Mobile Share plan. This will allow you to the entirety of your data package there!

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns! Have a fantastic time in Mexico!

As far as I know, it's as available as it was previously.

But WHICH plan do you have? It's not an option for all plans, and some newer plans have it built in.

If you switch to New Roam Mexico, you can use all your shared data.

If believe it's if for 2 consecutive months that more then 50% of your data or calls or texts is used in Mexico, you may possibly be penalized.

Thanks for your answer, Gary. But if I understand correctly from Demetria's answer, I can use my Mexico Roaming Bonus for the entire 5 months I'm in Mexico. With the new Roam Mexico plan, since ALL my usage will be in Mexico for much longer than 2 months, I could get cut off. I'll have to be careful with the 1 GB limit, but I think this seems safer.

One more question, then. Is there any way to keep track of my data usage during the month, to see if I'm nearing the 1 GB limit? Either on the AT&T mobile app, or on att.com?

I think I answered my own question here. On both the website and the mobile app, I found "International Data: 80 MB used, 944 MB left." This must be the Mexico Roaming Bonus data, and halfway through the first month I have no issues.

I'd reset the counter on the phone when you cross the border. Sometimes data reporting is delayed...

I think there are possible issues with the calls or texts too (if you have more than half in Mexico over 2 months). Check the description in your plan details.

I have NOT heard of them enforcing this for anyone yet...
