How to activate international SMS?
I will be in Switzerland for several weeks. I want to continue to be able to send / receive SMS messages to/from phone numbers in the USA. But I do not need to make/receive voice calls. What option do I sign up for that allows international SMS, but no international voice?

That is not possible. SMS works through the cellular voice network, so if you are able to send and receive SMS messages, you are also able to receive calls.
Provided you have a postpaid plan and international roaming enabled on your account, you don't have to do anything more to activate international SMS. If you expect to send more than 60 text messages, you may want to get an international plan. A work around is to transfer calls to a third party number before you leave. You will not get hit with unwanted roaming fees from calls, but still able to receive text messages.
