How To Sign Up For HBO Using AT&T Unlimited Plus Offer

First of all, thanks for being a valued AT&T member! We understand you have many options to choose from! If you took advantage of AT&T Unlimited Plus plan, you can now stream HBO for Life using AT&T U-verse TV service, DIRECTV or DIRECTV NOW!

Stream HBO from your computer of mobile device and take advantage of unlimited access to Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, VEEP and more!

  • If you currently subscribe to HBO through an AT&T video service – DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW or U-verse TV – HBO will now be included for no additional charge.
  • If you subscribe to an AT&T video service but not HBO, you’ll automatically receive access to the premium HBO channels as part of your wireless plan.
  • If you don’t subscribe to an AT&T video service, you can access your HBO content through the DIRECTV NOW and HBO Go apps.

If you do not have TV service, create DIRECTV NOW account by:

  1. Creating a DIRECTV NOW account.
  2. On the first page, select the Verify number link to enter your AT&T Unlimited Plus plan wireless number.
  3. Once your wireless number is verified, enter an email address and a password to create your DIRECTV NOW account.
  4. That’s all there is to it! Just select Start watching on the next page to use DIRECTV NOW.

If you have DIRECTV or U-verse television service, a credit is applied to the bill. It can take 1-2 billing cycles for you to see the credit.

Re: Free HBO

I've verified my number but there's nowhere to enter an email and password. My only option is to be guided through purchasing DirecTV service.

Re: Free HBO

Created an account here just to let everyone know it's a bit of a scam. Borderline false advertisement. They say that the HBO is "free" but you are required to create a DIRECTV account. However, having the account is NOT free. You MUST have a plan to have an account. If you want to cancel, you have to delete the account in the process. There is no free HBO and I'm thinking about suing.

Re: Free HBO

I thought the same thing and was really upset about it but there is a way to create a free Direct TV account through AT&T and you only get HBO with it, no other channels. You can then use HBO Go. It’s very convoluted, though! Why don’t they just give us HBO without Direct TV?
It’s been awhile but I think I got in touch with Direct TV support and they sorted me out. AT&T support was pretty useless, for me anyway.

Re: Free HBO

i created an account just to chime in and say (like others have implied) this whole thing has been a mess.

ideally we should be able to authenticate through hbo go with our at&t account and be done with it.

it took so much jumping from site to site that i cant even remember how i got to the point of watching anything.

hopefully it gets better soon.

Re: Free HBO

To AT&T Mobility Care:

Can you please identify the correct department to speak with at AT&T for the credit that was  supposed to occur for switching from my current carrier to AT&T.   My HBO for Life promo promised $200 per line up to 6 lines. I switched 4 lines and received an email from AT&T that confirmed this would be an $800 credit to my account.

DirecTV fulfilled their part of the promo - I've seen the $15 recurring credit and HBO was activated.  My issues is not receiving the $800 credit from AT&T for switching my wireless service.

Here are the screenshots for the original May 2018 web offer.   This should help you track this down. The full url is shown below.

hbo3.JPGHBO Life offer May 2018 (2).JPG

Here are AT&T departments and numbers I have tried but each one states they have had nothing to do with this promo. Most certainly this was a joint DirecTV and AT&T promotion and it is AT&T that is not honoring their part of it.

I’ve spoken to the Mobility Specialist dept 1-800-331-0500,

the  AT&T wireless Rebates  Support Desk dept 1-855-749-0884,

the Switcher Promotions dept at 1-800-288-9983,

and the Customer Care dept at 1-800-288-2020

Each agent contacted pushes you to the next department.  The most frustrating thing is being told that a Supervisor will call you back and this never occurs. These are systemic issues that AT&T Management should take very seriously and should take actions to resolve.

Please AT&T Mobility Care, your help would be most greatly appreciated in getting this resolved.

I've spent nearly 10 hours now getting switched from one department to another.

Help!

Re: Free HBO

This support information is out dated - the ability to get HBO Go now has NOTHING to do with DirectTV.   I just spent HOURS figuring this out.  Here's what you have to do:

1. Create an AT&T WatchTV account - this is different from your AT&T login

2. On an iPhone, install the HBO Go app and when it comes to selecting a TV provider, you have to pick the choice that says something like "Show ALL TV providers" . then find AT&T WatchTV . (NOT DirectTV or AT&T Uverse) . Once you select AT&T WatchTV, you will be prompted to enter your user ID and password for AT&T WatchTV that you created in step #1.  Once you do that, you'll be authenticated and you'll return to the home screen of HBO Go.

3. On an AppleTV, you have to browse to a similar choice "use another provider" or something like that. It will then take you to a screen telling you to go to www.hbogo.com/something and enter a code that is being displayed on your TV.

4. Go to the web site specified and go through a similar process described in #2 above - when you pick AT&T WatchTV it will ask for a user ID and password.  One authenticated, it will ask you to enter the code being displayed on your TV screen.  Once you do that, it will authenticate and you'll click "continue" to go to the home screen of HBO Go.

I just did this three times on three different devices and it worked each time like this.  The hardest part is that (1) no one at AT&T understands this and (2) you do NOT use DirectTV or AT&T Uverse.  You must find the "secondary" list of TV providers and then select AT&T WatchTV from that list.

@bpchristensen23

Yes, it’s dated, but still valid for anyone who doesn’t have ATT TV service or WatchTV.

Your directions are correct if you have WatchTV.   And the information should have been included with your WatchTV info.

The above is dated to when the former Unlimited Plus plan had free HBO and DirecTV NOW was the only way to verify HBO go for non TV customers.

DirecTV NOW is not DirecTV satellite.

I will pass along a suggestion to update the original post to add WatchTV sign in information.

You have to verify through WatchTV now.   https://ewr2-auth-api.att.com/consent/consent
