Address Backup

So, when the address book is phased out, will I lose all my contacts on my phone?

I just called ATT. If / when you change phones, they won't be able to retrieve the address book from the cloud. Only transfer from the phone memory chip. Your best bet is to back up your address book on a computer. (if you're not doing it already)

That is correct for basic phones.  

Smartphones already back up to iCloud, google or outlook.
