Voicemail msg. via phone co.

On my AT&T landline, my Panasonic phone will ring, then a message appears on the phone , "Voicemail msg. via phone co."  with an option below left to hit "ACCESS." I don't use AT&T's voice messaging service on this line. I have a message recorder here at home. I can remove the screen message by opening the line, then hanging up. If I hit ACCESS, the message appears "ask phone co. for VM access #." I don't want voice mail services with the phone company. But it keeps happening.

Thanks for answering those questions, it helps narrow down where the problem maybe.  On page 28 of the manual found here is the message indicator.  According to the manual the voicemail default option is set to on.  I would assume changing that to off would cure your problem.  Let us know if that does the trick.

Thank you for starting a new topic.  I've got some questions to help determine the problem. Please answer all questions.

.Is this a traditional landline (POTS) or U-verse service?  The term landline is used for both, even though U-verse is not really a landline.

.Do you hear a stutter dial tone when you pick up the phone?

.is this a new phone or is it an existing phone and the trouble just started?

.Do people calling you hear something other than your home answering machines greeting?

.What model Panasonic phone do you have?

.Is this new phone service?

.Is this a traditional landline (POTS) or U-verse service? The term landline is used for both, even though U-verse is not really a landline. Traditional land line. U-verse in on a different line.

.Do you hear a stutter dial tone when you pick up the phone? Nope, same sound as usual.

.is this a new phone or is it an existing phone and the trouble just started? Existing phone I've used for months, trouble just started today.

.Do people calling you hear something other than your home answering machines greeting? I just called the landline from my cell phone, and only heard the home answering machine's greeting.

.What model Panasonic phone do you have?  KX-TGM420

.Is this new phone service? No, same service I've had for more than a year.

Hi @coffeetea, we are happy to help with your voice mail concerns.

Find out how to check your voicemail messages from home, online, or anywhere you travel.

View the instructions below to set up and access your voicemail box and listen to messages. Or, view the more detailed instructions for AT&T Voicemail Services (PDF, 823KB).

Set up voicemail
To set your voicemail box using the phone connected to your AT&T Voicemail (such as your home number), follow these steps:

  1. Dial *98 or dial your Access Number
  2. Follow the prompts to set up your mailbox.

To set up your mailbox using a phone number not connected to your AT&T Voicemail, follow these steps:

  1. Dial your Access Number.
  2. Enter your Temporary PIN (your 10-digit phone number).
  3. Follow the prompts to set up your mailbox.

Access your voicemail

  • Dial *98 from your home phone. If you are away from home, dial your access number and follow the prompts, or dial your phone number, then press the * key when you hear the greeting.
  • Enter your PIN and follow the prompts.

Note: Depending on how you set up your voicemail box, you might be asked to enter your PIN. If you haven’t set up your PIN, enter your Temporary PIN from your order confirmation booklet. The Temporary PIN is typically your 10-digit telephone number.

Listen to voicemail messages

  1. Access voicemail.
  2. Press 1 to Get your Messages.
  3. Press 1 for Voice Messages.

Use these keys while you're listening to your messages:

Poster @coffeetea also opened a new topic found here since this is a duplicate post and 2 years old,  I'm closing this topic to further posting.  If what's here doesn't answer their questions than they can provide more detail in the topic they started.
