I needed to have my number changed due to harassing calls so I called in to see what my options were. I did not know the # to block so it was decided I would change the number completely. A number I've had for over ten years. i was introduced to U-verse voice and the service would be activated June 12th.
Unfortunately our family experienced a crisis and it was imperative i keep the original number due my having and needing to contact numerous family members some in Europe. I immediately phoned in my issue to cancel the uverse service and was told the also when the technician calls to confirm the installation appointment tell him you need to cancel which I did. I asked to make sure that my service would gremain the same with the same original phone number and I was assured it would be.
I was under the complete understanding all was fine until June 12 when the phone went out. Since I am one of the few who did not have a cell phone I was stuck without phone service so i went online and attempted to get help through chat. To make a long, long story short I was told there was a problem with the service and they were working on getting it resolved. Over and over day after day I received the same story and yes I would still be able to keep my same number. Then last week one nice chat agent put me through to a supervisor when other's wouldn't she informed me that indeed me my original number was disconnected and was no longer available and I would definitely need a new number. Not only that but there was no order for any phone service since the uverse service was cancelled. What a nightmare. Then to top it off I get the battery back up for self install from UPS. If they cancelled the Uverse why did I get the equi[ment two and half weeks later. So a new order was placed and still AT&T can't seem to figure out what's wrong and here it is July 7th and I still do not have a phone. Everytime I have chatted with someone I've been given a different story, advice or they assure me it would be on on a certain date all over again. Last night after 8:30pm still no phone then thismorning after 7am still no phone so a technician was ordered to come out today as the errors were found and resolved so someone was coming out to the house today to get it all straightened out. I waited all day and when I went back online to chat the lady said no appointment order was placed and they were still trying to get the problem resolved and how sorry they were for the inconvenience. Then UPS delivered another back up battery today. What the heck do I need two for? OMG! I have never been so frustrated, confused or just upset. It's AT&T the biggest phone company and they can't figure out what they did wrong let alone apologize for their mistake and work around the clock to get this "resolved". Come on. I just don't know what to do anymore about this whole mess. When your car breaks down you're given a rental I think at least AT&T should have offered me a prepaid cell to use temporarily. I am so spent and quite frankly AT&T Brain Fried from all the stories, lies and unprofessionalism given to me. I just want the bloody phone fixed and working.

Send them a private message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your phone # problems. They are available M-F 8am-11pm Eastern time, response may take up to 2 business days.
This is not the regular CS/TS people, but the social media Community Specialists that know the people to contact to get things done.
