The difference between Orange Refill cards vs Blue refill cards

My roommate has an at&t go phone that he wanted to get service for. He was directed by an employee at the store he was at, to purchase an orange $60 card. He also got a sim. Then after got back to work and had already scratched the code, he found out he had to get the blue refill cards instead so he wasted $60. My question is what is the difference between the orange go phone cards versus the blue ones??? How do you know which one you can use?

Hey there @angelgabbby!

Great question!  Thank you so much for reaching out to the Community Forums.  It can be a little confusing with the different design of the cards.  I would be happy to help in getting this cleared up.

For the AT&T PREPAID accounts, you would need a card which states it is for refilling your prepaid mobile account.  Previously, when the service was titled as “GoPhone”, the cards were predominately orange with the blue chat bubble.  In some cases, you might even find a two-tone white and blue version.

As long as the card denotes usage for PREPAID refill, you should be good to go.  With the new blue cards, you should see a denomination of value on the front.  This is a great indicator for if the card will work for your roommate’s plan.

One of the best ways to check the card is by entering the code on the website.  After signing into their account, please have them go to Make a Payment > Enter the Card PIN.  They should be directed through the rest of the purchase.

I hope this helps!  Have an amazing day!
