Uverse Internet with Directv NOW and data caps.

I recently switched from Uverse tv to Directv Now. I planned on keeping Uverse internet in order to stream Directv Now. When I called ATT in order to drop Uverse tv I told the rep that I had Directv Now. The rep recommended that I upgrade my internet plan in order to have a better experience with Directv Now. So I made a plan upgrade however the rep made no mention of the fact that since I would no longer have Uverse tv that my internet would have a data cap of 1tb. So in April I received an email from ATT saying that I went over my 1tb of data. So for the next few days I viewed my data usage everyday and I noticed that the usage was from watching Directv NOW. Interesting thing about that is I chatted with a rep that told me that Directv NOW would not count against my allotted data. So When I realized it was actually being counted against my data amounts I called and spoke with a rep this time I was told that watching Directv Now did count against my data amounts and that if I viewed Directv NOW using my mobile device it would not count against data amounts ( I have unlimited cell data however I am not sitting at home watching movies/ tv on a cell phone....why buy a tv if that's the case). None of ATT Uverse Internet plans offer unlimited data you have to have Directv or Uverse tv if you don't then its 1tb of data or you can pay an extra $30 per month for unlimited data. If you are given unlimited data for the other tv services they offer then they should do the same for Directv NOW. For  example since I have unlimited data on my cellphone I have free HBO on Directv NOW just like they offered me when I had Uverse tv therefore unlimited home internet data should be offered free to all Directv NOW customers just like it is for Uverse tv and Directv satellite customers. The way things stand ATT will lose me as an internet customer since I do have the option of other service providers in my area.

So now I know to switch internet providers ATT logic is skewed. Just on a cursory I glance I see that Spectrum offers the same package I have for a lower price with inlimited data. Your answer solidified my notion that I need to cut Uverse internet off. Att's pricing or lack thereof may work in areas where people dont have any options to say hey spend $80 you will get unlimited data when competitors offer it for less isnt a way to keep customers. For instance with the large amounts of people streaming tv ATT had to get in the game but you guys are falling short as far as internet options for Directv NOW customers no one on their right mind is going to have directv now plus one of your hardwire tv services!!!

I've just had the same experience. I've switched to DirectTVnow and like it but there is a datacap. Called support and was told that if I changed plans the internet cap wouldn't apply. And the technician would come out free of charge. Still don't understand why a tech needs to come out to change the speed of the internet. Can't get a straight answer out of support. This should of been a simple fix. Don't understand why ATT is charging me more to use my own equipment. I'm probably switching Cell, tv and internet.

Some increases in bandwidth require a technician visit to test the suitability of your line for the additional speed and/or change the port within the VRAD you are connected to and/or possibly either connect an additional pair and/or run a dedicated home-run cable from your NID to your Gateway.

Also, most normal speed increases have no impact on your cap.  What speed are you moving from/to, and what cap did you think you had and will have?

I have internet 45. was told by switching to a higher speed the datacap would be removed. Why is there a datacap on ATT services ? The datacap is the real issue. I went out and purchased a couple rokus after a rep at an ATT store told me that directtv now wouldn't count toward datacaps. As far as testing the suitability that should be able to be done remotely and then send out a tech if necessary. It shouldn't be automatic.

I'm sorry, it appears you've been misled.  Internet 45 already carries a 1 TB data cap.  The only way to increase speed for a higher datacap would be to go to Fiber 1000 (which would really require a tech visit, and generally a whole new account).  You can pay a $30/month fee for unlimited data.  Or, if you subscribed to U-verse IPTV or DIRECTV (not DIRECTV NOW), then you would also get unlimited data.

It doesn't count against WIRELESS plan data caps, as long as you are running the DIRECTV NOW client on a cell phone.  This does not apply to wired Internet plan caps.  And it never applies to use of the app on Rokus, as far as I know.

Depending on the amount and video-quality you stream on DTVN, you may not exceed the 1 TB /month cap.

There are several different answers to this question.  The most accurate is because AT&T wants to have one.

If I only have the option of Uverse TV and Directv Now where I live, why is there not an option to have Directv Now with unlimited data for home internet use? AT@T needs to offer Directv Now with unlimited data for home internet if they cannot offer both Uverse and Directv in an area. If the service is not available alternative plans should be offered. It is ridiculous to be charge for overage or have to pay an additional $30 a month for extra data. People work from home!!!

Hello @angel33458

We appreciate you for reaching out to share your feedback! We'll be sure to pass it along and hopefully soon we can come up with a bundle option for DIRECTV NOW and U-Verse as well as an unlimited data option. If you have any other suggestions or questions, let us know!

I was also told that Direct TV now wouldn’t count on my internet data usage.  Interestingly. Inordered ATT internet and wasn’t told it was on UVERSE but without TV. I was t told I was capped at all and never wS on my old provider. Very confusing and misleading. I’m getting tired of ATT.

DirecTV Now doesn't count on your MOBILE data usage, if you are an AT&T wireless customer with a qualified plan and watching on a mobile device.

It's easy to get that mixed up - even AT&T people sometimes don't clarify that well.
