Wiring help needed... upgrading CAT3 to CAT5e

Hi so my question is we have Three wiring coming from the telephone interface device box to the modem we currently have a dead spots in one of the rooms for the Wi-Fi, and neither an extender would work and we were told that we need to do a re-wire by the AT&T technician. Well I hardwired a 2nd router from The AT&T modem to the dead spot in the house as well as lead wire for cat 5E replace the Three. The Internet works better in a dead zone however still spotty I am now going to do the upgrade of the cat three to the cat 5E however I am unsure where all for twisted pairs of the cat 5E go. If anybody can help would be greatly appreciated thank you as the AT&T technical assistance would not help to answer my question as my The AT&T modem to the dead spot in the house as well as lead wire for cat 5E replace the Three. Thank you

Re: Wiring help needed... upgrading CAT3 to CAT5e

568B is the industry wiring standard for Ethernet cables.  For what you're using it for your CAT3 if 4 pair would probably work fine unless you're using some pretty high speed stuff.   You say you "hardwired" your router.  How if you didn't know the wiring scheme?

Our internet goes in and out.  I did do the 568b for the plug and connector found this on packaging  and enough info online that made me confortable enough to do that.  However we do plan on doing many smart home upgrades and feel i should definitely upgrade the wiring.  Especially since my home has only one ethernet port in the house and thats in the living room... also the wiring i am talkjng about is what is shown in the picture below of the Telephone internet interface. 78308A04-A3F0-42C3-B323-A98B62E743CB.jpeg
